Mr. Black is an industrial marketing consultant with more than 55 years of accomplishment in his field. From 1962 to 1964, he served as a chemist for Aerojet General Corporation of Folsom. During his time at Aerojet, he realized that his passion for chemistry lay not in development, but in implementation, and he refocused his career towards industrial marketing. From 1966 until 1971, he found success as a venture manager for DuPont of Wilmington, Delaware. Mr. Black joined Pan American World Airways in New York City in 1971 as a flight service administrator, rising to become the director of capital budgets between 1974 and 1976.
During this time he was a co-parent of two boys with Virginia Black, a New York University Cell Biology Professor. He also litigated pro se in Tax Court in favor of child care deductions for full time working couples which proceeded to a decision.
From 1976 to 1981, Mr. Black was active in his role with Interaction Analysts consulting as an organization analyst. He proceeded to become a market development manager for Allied Fibers and Plastics of Morristown, New Jersey, between 1981 and 1984. Since 1984, Mr. Black has been an industrial marketing consultant for CIMDI, based in New York City and Silicon Valley.
Mr. Black is best known for his work in acrylic film manufacturing and structural plastic moldings, which led to the development of the EVAP canister, a mandated car emission control device. His work on the new-car delivery process is still utilized by the car manufacturers Toyota and Lexus. In civic affairs, Mr. Black is a community urban planner for the city of San Jose, and a pro bono consultant for the Stanford Alumni Consulting team. He was an early adopter (1970s) of bicycle commuting which he continued to near retirement.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Black pursued his education, attending Stanford University. In the course of his studies, he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1962. Mr. Black subsequently graduated in 1966 with a Master of Business Administration.
