CARDIFF BY THE SEA, CA, November 14, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Julianna Thomas has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Drawing on many years of professional experience, Ms. Thomas currently serves on NOAA's Hydrographic Services Review Panel (HSRP) and the Quality Control of Real Time Data (QARTOD), the data management steering team for NOAA's Integrated Ocean Observing System. Formally, she was the Program Manager for the US Army Corps of Engineer's Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP), and Executive Director for NOAA's Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System (SCCOOS), based at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO). She also served on the National Academy of Sciences Earth Science and Applications from Space Decadel Survey, Steering Committee member for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory Wave Classification panel and the Joint Technical Commission for Oceanography. Throughout her career, Ms. Thomas gained valuable expertise on the local, regional and national levels through executive roles where her long term commitment to CDIP and SCCOOS were evident through Program expansion and development of operational, reliable, high quality data.
An expert in her field, Ms. Thomas earned a Master of Arts in French Literature from San Diego State University in 1971. Between 1976 and 1995, she also pursued course work in mathematics, science and programming. In order to remain active and aware of changes in the field, she is serving as CO-Chair of the HSRP, Senior Advisor to CDIP and SCCOOS and Board of Advisors Chair for QARTOD.
Attributing her success to the passion she has had for her job, Ms. Thomas has been gratified to work with an amazing variety of talented people. With a plethora of knowledge at her disposal, she has contributed to such publications as "The California Coastal Wave Monitoring and Prediction System," "How High Resolution Wave Observations and HF Radar-Derived Surface Currents Are Critical to Decision-Making for Maritime Operations," "A National Operational Wave Observation Plan" and the 14 QARTOD manuals on QC testing and procedures for real-time in-situ observations (https://ioos.noaa.gov/project/qartod/).
