Mike Delaurier's Maple Leaf Diner has been celebrated as D Magazine's Reader's Choice for Best Breakfast in Dallas in 2018 and Best Brunch in Dallas in 2019.

A native of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, he began working in his grandparents' restaurant at the age of 13. While he spent a few years in retail, his desire to find food that reminded him of his childhood compelled him to open the Maple Leaf Diner in September 2015. In the years since, the restaurant has been celebrated as D Magazine's Reader's Choice for Best Breakfast in Dallas in 2018 and Best Brunch in Dallas in 2019, and honored by Paula Dean Magazine as offering one of the Top Ten Chicken and Waffles in the country.
For Mr. Delaurier, hospitality is not just an industry, but a lifestyle. "I always go out of the way to help others and improve the lives of everyone around me," he notes. When he initially opened his restaurant, he was approached by a candidate who brought a significant amount of experience, but also had a criminal record and lived at a sober house. Mr. Delaurier agreed to give this candidate and 12 other residents of the sober house a job to help them re-establish their lives, thus beginning his employment initiative for helping others who may not be hired elsewhere due to previous choices. He believes it is important to provide kindness to others, even though it may not always be returned.
Mr. Delaurier attributes his success to hard work and surrounding himself with people who work equally hard to attain their goals. One of his goals is to deliver "super-attentive" customer service, going above and beyond to help customers feel welcome in his establishment. While he eventually plans to slow down to make more time for his family, business has never been better at Maple Leaf Diner, with appearances on Food Network's "Incredible Edible America," with comedian Jeff Dunham and food blogger Audrey Dunham, the Travel Channel's "Food Paradise," and frequent network news spotlights.
