An accomplished listee, Dr. Kasulis celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. In 1970, Dr. Kasulis earned a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University, following this accomplishment with a Master of Philosophy from the university in 1972. Interested in cross-cultural thought, he went on to earn a Master of Arts in Asian philosophy from the University of Hawaii in 1973 and a Doctor of Philosophy from Yale University in 1975. Most recently serving as a professor of comparative studies at the Ohio State University, a position he held from 1991 to 2015, Dr. Kasulis commenced his career as an assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Hawaii. As his career progressed, he worked as associate chair of philosophy at the University of Hawaii, assistant professor at Northland College and head of the Division of Humanities and the Arts at Northland College. As he became involved with the Ohio State University, he served the institution as chair of East Asian languages and literatures, chair of comparative studies and founding director of the Humanities Institute. He also acted as the director of the Center for the Study of Religion at the university from 2013 until attaining emeritus status in 2015.

Passionate about the relationship between thought, values and spirituality, Dr. Kasulis was motivated to study Japan because of how these factors would affect a non-theistic society. A published writer in his field, he has written several books, including "Zen Action/Zen Person," "Intimacy or Integrity: Philosophy and Cultural Difference," "Shinto: The Way Home" and "Engaging Japanese Philosophy: A Short History." Dr. Kasulis has also co-edited such works as "Japanese Philosophy: A Sourcebook" and "Self as Body in Asian Theory and Practice," along with contributing to numerous books and journals. Notably, Dr. Kasulis has contributed articles on Japanese philosophy to the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy and Encyclopedia Britannica.

Alongside his primary professional accomplishments, Dr. Kasulis worked as a Mellon faculty fellow in humanities for Harvard University from 1979 to 1980, visiting facility researcher at Osaka University in Japan from 1982 to 1983, Numata visiting professor at the University of Chicago in 1988, and a part-time instructor at Yale University from 1974 to 1975. He was a National Endowment of the Humanities fellow from 1986 to 1987 and again in 2000, as well as a fellow of the Japan Foundation from 1982 to 1983 and again in 2004. He was also a senior research fellow with the East West Center in Honolulu in 1988.

Interested in maintaining professional connections, Dr. Kasulis belongs to the Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy, of which he was president from 1988 to 1991, as well as the American Society for the Study of Religion, of which he was president from 1999 to 2002. In addition to his occupational endeavors, he has completed work with the Chinatown Restoration Committee in Honolulu, HI, and the Ohio State University Gateway Replanning Committee, among other organizations. Dr. Kasulis has been honored in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the Midwest.
