An award-winning architect of 30 years, Mr. Temple retired as the owner of his own firm, Lee Temple, Architect, American Institute of Architects (AIA), in Crestone and Ithaca in 2010, after 25 years. A well-known global sustainability activist and consultant, he likewise founded and oversaw the Sustainable Resource Center in Crestone between 1993 and 2004, a regional sustainability clearing house, library, and consulting organization that published the quarterly SRC Newsletter.
An alumnus of Cornell University, Mr. Temple received a Bachelor of Architecture in 1979. He was certified through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards from 1985 to 1995. Beginning in 1980, he held teaching appointments at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Syracuse University, and Cornell University, and the ETH Zurich, where he taught various graduate- and undergraduate-level architecture and urban design courses until 1993. Moreover, throughout this time, he was a well-respected academic consultant, senator, strategist, and design advisor to many advanced senior students who created top-rated thesis projects under his leadership.
Among his many awards, Mr. Temple was awarded two Eidlitz Fellowships from Cornell University in the department of architecture in 1979 and 1981. Honored with several awards for his architectural designs, he notably received First Prize in the Storey Communications Compact House Competition in 1983, Residential Design Awards in 1985 and 1986, and a Design Excellence Award in 1987 from the AIA. Additionally, Mr. Temple has been an award-winning creative writer and songwriter for many years and, in 1996, established Temple Mountain Music and Big Rig Records, to produce and distribute his musical compositions. In 2017, he won the Book Excellence Award for Awakening Into Unity, the Complete Global Awakening Series Reader, a definitive 500-page work that was chosen in the Climate Change category from among hundreds of entrants worldwide, for its high quality writing, design, and market appeal. It has become a valued collegiate teaching text at leading universities.
Today he is a globally-respected sustainability thought leader, and recognized as "a modern-day Renaissance man," by James O'Dea, a former leader of Amnesty International, "a voice crying in the wilderness," by noted Native American Elder Lorain Fox-Davis, and "an important spokesperson and guide for the global Earth-healing movement" by Bill Bauman, founder of the World Peace Institute.
Mr. Temple currently serves as Managing Director of Shining Golden Suns, LLC (SGS), a Colorado-based independent publisher founded in 2004. Its' activities include producing, acquiring, marketing, and developing intellectual properties for publication and distribution. From film scripts to paintings, e- and print-on-demand books to newspaper and magazine articles, SGS addresses social justice, climate change, political activism and other topics, with a mission of making a significant difference for world healing. SGS and Mr. Temple are known for his screenplay Last Eagle, as well as his highly acclaimed Global Awakening series of books, articles, posters, pamphlets, interviews, teachings, and speeches, launched in 2013 via the companion website primamundi.com and featured in the Shift network.
His leadership is founded on 30 years' experience as an effective community organizer at many scales from local to global. Through his award-winning blog, website and associated platforms, Mr. Temple is a vital change agent and force for global cross-cultural transformation. He remains active as a sustainability member in the Shift Network since 2014, and has served as consultant, supporter, advisor, and/or strategist for numerous organizations and individuals worldwide, including 350.org, the Orion Society, UNICEF, the International Rescue Committee and the NRDC. Locally, he has been responsible for coordinating many community events for decades, including serving as chair for the social justice committee at Cornell University's Catholic Community, helping to found the steering committee for the Tibetan Resettlement Project in Ithaca, New York, and helping establish Ecovillage at Ithaca as a founding board member, which has since become an internationally recognized model for sustainable development. He shared his design expertise as a member of the Crestone Charter School design committee (2010-12), co-founded the Crestone Sustainability Initiative (2007), and served as a trustee of his local parish council.
