John Matthias has published some thirty works of poetry, criticism, and fiction

    SOUTH BEND, IN, November 19, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present John Matthias with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Matthias celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Matthias is known as an English literature and creative writing teacher with more than forty years of excellence in his discipline. Inspired to enter academia by a high school teacher, he initially pursued an education at the Ohio State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1963. He continued his studies at Stanford University, graduating with a Master of Arts in 1966, and concluded his postgraduate research at the University of London in in the academic year 1966-67.

In the fall of 1967, Mr. Matthias was appointed Assistant Professor of English at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. He became an Associate Professor in 1973 and a Professor in 1980. He became Professor Emeritus in 2000. Matthias has also been a visiting professor at a number of institutions, including the University of Chicago, Skidmore College, and Cambridge.

Mr. Matthias has published some thirty works of poetry, criticism, and fiction including a three volume "Collected Poems (2011-2013), the novel "Different Kinds of Music" (2014), and the essays brought together in "Reading Old Friends" (1992) and "At Large" (2016). His poetry has been translated into several languages.

Mr. Matthias has been given a number of honors and awards, including a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship,(1963) a Fulbright Grant to England (1966), A Visiting Fellowship to Clare Hall Cambridge (1976), two Ingram Merrill Foundation Awards (1984 and 1990), a National Endowment for the Humanities Travel Grant (1985), the George Bogin Memorial Award of the Poetry Society of America (1990), a Lily Endowment Grant (1991-92), and several others. Two books of essays on his work have been published, "Word Play Place: Essays on the Poetry of John Matthias," edited by Robert Archambeau, and "The Salt Companion to John Matthias," edited by Joseph Doerr.
