Prior to this appointment, he served as the chairman of the Institute of Physiology at the University of Austral in Chile, between 1965 and 1973. At the start of his career, Dr. Ramirez contributed as an assistant professor at the Institute of Physiology from the School of Medicine at the University of Chile in 1965.
Prior to the start of his career, Dr. Ramirez pursued a formal education at the University of Chile and earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1957. Upon relocating to the United States in 1974, he developed professional relationships with a number of organizations in the field. A member of the International Brain Research Organization, he also maintains his professional affiliation with the Endocrine Society, the International Society of Neuroendocrinology, the Society of Experimental Biology and Medicine, the Society of Study Reproduction, and the Society of Neuroscience.
The highlight of professor Ramirez's career was encountering many excellent mentors, who nurtured his desire to become a scientist. These individuals include his professor Sam McCann and Dr. Tom Sawyer. Both offered Dr. Ramirez the opportunity to become a research member on their team, which strengthened his relationship with the pair.
In addition to his primary endeavors, Dr. Ramirez was a past member of the biochemical endocrinology study section with the Wisconsin Primate Center for nine years and an ad-hoc member of the NIF/NSF study section from 1980 to 2006. For his accomplishments in the field, he has been named a Ford Foundation fellow, a Population Council Fellow, an International Brain Research Organization Fellow, a fellow of the Government of Venezuela as well as the Government of France, and a recipient of grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. He had a patent from Chiron Corp. for the discovery of DOPAMINE RELEASING PROTEIN with grant support from 1988 to 1990. Enjoying his retirement, Dr. Ramirez plays chess in his spare time.
