Mark Leitman, MD, is an ophthalmologist and has been named to 2020 Marquis Who's Who. He graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, where he had a National Science Foundation Grant and was the Captain of the wrestling team and received the highest service award. He then attended New York Medical College and was elected to AOA, the national honor society. He did his ophthalmic training at Albert Einstein Medical School where he was Chief Resident and received a National Eye Institute Grant to study glaucoma.
During his residency, he published the 1" edition of his book, "Manual for Eye Examination and Diagnosis", which, now, 48 years later, is in its 10th edition and includes 600 illustrations and photos. It has been translated into Spanish, Russian, Polish, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Indian, and Chinese. He donated the past two editions to 69,000 medical students, The 10th edition has just been offered for free to 36,000 medical students. In 2016, he published an article describing five new eye reflexes and was asked to present it in five different countries.
The Middlesex County Medical Society has awarded him for his scholarly contributions and authorship. In 2017, he was named the #1 Ophthalmologist in New Jersey by Trademark Who's Who and again #1 in NJ in 2019 by Top Doctor. In 2017, he was named the Outstanding Medical Educator by Campbell University Medical School. He was also a Captain in the US Army Reserve Medical Corp. As Chairman of the Town's Environmental Commission, he received a resolution from the Mayor and Town Council of East Brunswick, NJ for the exposing of toxic waste hazards and stopping housing developments on wetlands.
Dr. Leitman is presently Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is in private practice in East Brunswick, NJ where his waiting room contains hundreds of exotic objects. It was featured on the nationally televised Travel Channel and several newspapers and periodicals online and in print.
