David E. Carpenter Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

In honor of his achievements, David E. Carpenter received an Elmer Kohlbeck Friend of Tourism Award in 1994 and 2006, and a Forward Wisconsin Award in 1994.

Now a retired county official and land use planner, Mr. Carpenter concluded his career in 2006 after more than 15 years with Dodge County Planning and Development in Juneau, Wisconsin. There, he served as the director of planning and later as an executive director. Witnessing many changes and improvements during his tenure, one of Mr. Carpenter's biggest successes was the Dodge County park system, which more than doubled in size under his guidance.

Mr. Carpenter began his career in 1963 as a planner for the Wisconsin Department of Development in Madison and for Fond du Lac County in Wisconsin in 1966. He later held various positions with the Southeastern Wisconsin Health System Agency in Milwaukee and Saint Mary's Hospital Medical Center and Saint Mary's Services in Madison. Mr. Carpenter also owned his own business, David Carpenter Associates, in Madison as the president between 1986 and 1989.

Contributing to his field, Mr. Carpenter authored "Solid Waste Recycling Plan" in 1991 and "Outdoor Recreation Plan" in 1995. He has also lent his expertise as the president and chairman of the communications committee of the Rock River Coalition in Watertown and as the chairman of the Warner Park Community Recreation Center advisory committee. He has held various leadership roles with the Columbus United Methodist Church, the Columbus Ad Hoc Economic Development Committee, the Dodge County Heritage Preservation and other organizations. He is or was a volunteer with the Charles E. Brown Archeological Society, 1992-2009 (President 1994-1998, Rock River Coalition, 1994-2010 (President 1994-1998), Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center docent, 1997-2018, Olbrich Botanical Society, 2001-2019, Madison Skilaufers, 2001-2019 (President 2005-2007), Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, 2005-2019, Frank Lloyd Wright in Wisconsin, 2005-2019, Wisconsin Hardy Plant Society, 2007-2019; Northside Planning Council, 2007-2010, Gilda's Club, 2008-2010, Northside Artists Group, 2008-2019 (Treasurer 2008-2017) Wisconsin Regional Artists Association, 2008-2019 (Coordinator 2013-2016), Warner Park Citizen's Advisory Committee, 2008-2016 (Chairman 2011-2016), Madison Art Guild, 2011-2019 (President 2014-2016), Friends of Monona Terrace, 2017-2019 (President 2017-2019).

An alumnus of the University of Wisconsin, Mr. Carpenter received a Bachelor of Science in economics in 1962 and a Master of Science in urban and regional planning in 1979. Among other professional organizations, he is a member of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, the Wisconsin Historical Society and the American Planning Association. Mr. Carpenter has also served as the president of the Charles E. Brown Archeological Society and, further, a member of the Wisconsin Archeological Society, where he was the recipient of an Eileen Swiggum Award for Contribution in 2001.

In honor of his achievements, Mr. Carpenter received an Elmer Kohlbeck Friend of Tourism Award in 1994 and 2006, and a Forward Wisconsin Award in 1994. He also received numerous State Art Awards and Madison Art Guild Awards. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Carpenter has been featured in close to 30 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
