Initially, he spent lime at sea as an ordinary seaman on the SS San Francisco which was part of the Navy sealift (MSTS) during the Vietnam conflict. After his military service, he went back to school. He obtained a bachelor's degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1969, a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey in 1974 and a Master of Law in taxation at New York University (highest honors) in 1977. Mr. Massler has been admitted to practice law by the New Jersey State Bar Association, the New York State Bar Associations, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, the United States District Court for the Western District of New York and the United States Tax Court.

After graduation from law school in 1973, he served as counsel to Congressman Joseph G. Minish, a ranking member of thc House Banking, Currency, and Housing Committee of the United States House of Representatives from 1973-1976. Afterwards, he went back to school earning his LL.M. from New York University (1977) and then worked for the Bar Register law firm of Lipsitz, Green, Fahringer, Roll, Schuller & James of Buffalo and New York City, New York. He served as tax department head from 1978 to 1979.

Moving back to New Jersey, he then served as legal partner to several law firms throughout New Jersey and Washington. In addition to serving as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Seton Hall University School of Law from 1988-1990, he continued to publish and lecture. The activities included his being both author and tax editor of a three volume treatise by Matthew Sender on family law entitled ALIMONY, CHILD SUPPORT & COUNSEL FEES--AWARD, MODlFICATlON & ENFORCEMENT and as contributing author to seven other books including CLOSELY HELD CORPORATIONS, NEGLIGENCE IN NEW YORK PRACTICE, AND WEST LEGAL FORMS. He also served as a staff contributor to the New Jersey Law Journal, a contributing editor to Pensions and Insurance Problems, Taxation, FairShare and Law & Business, Inc. He has published over sixty articles in the Law Journal and other publications he served as a staff contributor.

While a professor at Seton Hall University School of Law, he penned the law review publication Qualified Domestic Relations Orders: A Statutory Analysis, 19 Seton Hall L. Rev. 2 (1989). He also actively participated in lectures and publications for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education often serving as both moderator and speaker. He also published for various American Bar Association publications including The Practical Lawyer and ALI-ABA CLE review.

In addition to his first love which was law, Mr. Massler served concurrently as a corporate executive. He served as President, chief executive officer and Chairman of the Board for the Bestway Group, Inc., a diversified entertainment company domiciled in Dover Delaware. In addition, he became an associate director for the United Jersey Bank/Franklin State Bank and served as a delegate for the advisory committee on industrial trade and economic development for the United States/China Joint Session in Beijing China. He also did real estate development and continues today as the general partner of 26/27 Law Drive Associates since 1988. The former associate director for the United Jersey Bank/Franklin State Bank, he had been selected as a delegate for the advisory committee on industrial trade and economic development for the United States/China Joint Sessions in Beijing, China.

Involved with a broad range of charitable and civic organizations throughout the tri-state area, Mr. Massler most notably participated on the board ofdirectors for the legal counsel of the Western New York chapter of the National Handicapped Sports and Recreation Association. He had further maintained his involvement as a candidate for the Springfield Township Commission in New Jersey. In addition, he served on the Board of Class Representatives, New York University from 1987 to 1991. He also established scholarships for law students at both Rutgers and New York University. When interviewed by a local New Jersey newspaper as to why he set up scholarships for Rutgers, his simple answer was "It is the right thing to do."
