Dr. Weisbrod began her academic career with an undergraduate degree magna cum laude in sociology and social work from the University of Minnesota in 1955, then worked as a public assistance caseworker in Hennepin County, MN. She returned for a Master's degree at the University of Minnesota and then, as a National Science Foundation fellow, received her doctorate in sociology from Cornell University in 1971.
Her academic career included teaching sociology courses in the 1970s at University of Washington, Cornell University, and Pacific Lutheran University. She returned to teaching in 1991 at Augsburg College, where she retired as Faculty Emeritus in 2000.
In her research career, she worked on social science research projects at the University of California Los Angeles School of Nursing, Bell Telephone Laboratories, Murray Hill NJ, Cornell University, and finally at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health on the Minnesota Heart Health Program (1986-89).
She is the co-editor of Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Social Psychology 1972 (with William Lambert), and has published numerous articles in professional journals.
As an active sociologist, Dr. Weisbrod has worked with many community organizations, including being recognized as a founder of the MN Council of American Youth Hostels (1957), a member of the District Planning Commission, Seattle Public Schools and a member of the Seattle Central Area School Council (1973-79), Chair of the MN Washington County Public Health Advisory Board (1988-90), and in retirement as a founder of the WA San Juan County Prevention Coalition and as Chair of the Mullis Community Senior Center.
She is married to Alan Richard Weisbrod and has two daughters.
