With nearly 40 years of teaching experience to her credit, Ms. Doss is currently retired, having most recently worked as a teacher for Hillsboro Community School District 3 in Illinois. She chose a career in education because it has always been a part of her as far as enjoying children. She was kind of a mother to her younger brother and that created in her a mothering and nurturing nature. School was very, very important to her; it always has been and will always be. It was her third and fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Eva Cruthis, on whom she looks back on with fondness; she was very stern and expected a lot but she turned out to be her favorite teacher.
Ms. Doss began her career with Springfield Public Schools from 1967 to 1971. She then became a special reading teacher for Blue Ridge Community Unit School District 18 in Farmer City, Illinois. From 1975 to 1981, Ms. Doss was a reading and language arts teacher at Rock Falls Middle School in Illinois before being named a special reading teacher at Morrisonville Junior High School in Illinois. After retiring as a teacher in 2006, Ms. Doss served as a paraprofessional for Mid-State Special Education until 2016.

Ms. Doss received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Illinois State University in Normal in 1967. She completed her education by earning a Master of Education in elementary education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1971.
Ms. Doss is a former member of the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, the Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association and the Litchfield Community Food Pantry. She is also a life member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Doss was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women and the eighth edition of Who's Who in American Education.
