Dr. Vincent Justus Felitti is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Having accrued more than 50 years of experience in the field of medicine, in 2018, Dr. Felitti retired from clinical practice at Kaiser Permanente. He still holds his position as a Clinical Professor of Medicine with the University of California, having joined that faculty in 1982. His professional career began in 1963 as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps, attaining the position of Post Surgeon at US Army Pine Bluff Arsenal, Arkansas. Completing his military obligation in 1965, he returned to Baltimore for three more years of post-graduate residency training at Johns Hopkins/Baltimore City Hospitals and the University of Maryland. In 1968 he accepted a position in internal medicine-infectious diseases at the Southern California Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in San Diego. In 1975 he founded the Department of Preventive Medicine there and was elected to the Medical Group's Board of Directors from 1974 to 1977 and from 1980 to 1985. Receiving the honor of Partner Emeritus in 2001, he continued his work as a clinician but gave up administrative responsibilities. He has been honored as Partner of the Year by the Southern California Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, received their Distinguished Service Award in 1998, and in 2019 was awarded the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievement Award.
In related endeavors, Dr. Felitti has contributed his time and resources as a member since 2006 of the International Academic Board of Trauma und Gewalt (Trauma and Violence), an international medical journal in Zurich, Switzerland. Similarly, he has long been senior editor of The Permanente Journal. Dr. Felitti further served on the Gulf War Committee of the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine from 2005 to 2007, as an Expert Reviewer for the Medical Board of California between 1995 and 2005, and as the co-Principal Investigator of the now internationally recognized Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study from 1995 to its close in 2015.
A Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Felitti has written prolifically, authoring and co-authoring over 125 articles and chapters in medical journals and books. He has spoken throughout the northern hemisphere on the ACE Study's findings of the transformation of generally unrecognized adverse childhood experiences into adult mental illness, biomedical disease, and premature death.
Before embarking on his professional career in Medicine, Dr. Felitti pursued his education at Dartmouth College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Class of 1956. After graduate studies in Bacteriology at the University of Minnesota, he entered the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1962.
