Marjory Wildcraft was spotlighted as an expert in sustainable living by National Geographic
AUSTIN, TX, December 05, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marjory Wildcraft has been included in Marquis Who's Who in America. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals are selected based on position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field.
In 2003, Ms. Wildcraft had a major life wake-up call while volunteering on a farm to table program for a local elementary school. The project failed due to the lack of available locally grown food. Upon investigation, Ms. Wildcraft discovered that this was not an isolated incident, and the vast majority of Americans are completely dependent on a fragile just-in-time trucking system.
Ms. Wildcraft also became aware that most of the genetics for heirloom verities of fruits, vegetables, and livestock have gone extinct due to the disappearance of backyard gardeners and homesteaders who traditionally nurtured and improved these breeds.
Horrified by the lack of resiliency in the American food system, Ms. Wildcraft was inspired to work to re-invigorate the backyard food production movement across the United States. Ms. Wildcraft founded The Grow Network, Inc.(https://thegrownetwork.com) in 2009, for which she now serves as the chief executive officer. The Grow Network features a lively blog with daily postings, an Honors Lab education area teaching people how to produce their own food, and an active forum where experienced elders share information with beginners.
Ms. Wildcraft also realized the movement she has founded would solve another huge problem: commercial agriculture is the largest destructive force on Earth. The stated purpose of The Grow Network is to stop the destruction of the Earth via "home grown food on every table".
Becoming an advocate for family-scale food resilience was a major change from her previous careers in engineering, investment management, and business consulting. Ms. Wildcraft excelled as a professional investor structuring high yield limited partnerships investing in real estate for ENP Capital Resources from 1996 to 2003. Prior to that, she was a senior technical business consultant for Engineering Synergy Ltd. from 1993 to 1998, and a senior manager of systems engineering for Motorola Asia Cellular during the early 1990s.
Although her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Wildcraft is especially proud of her work in shifting the meaning of wealth from material possessions to that of health, family, community, meaningful work, and living a life of purpose, all of which can be grown in a backyard. Ms. Wildcraft developed a system for people to grow half of their own food in their backyard in less than an hour per day. She is also proud of the training and kits she developed that empowers families to use simple herbal remedies to take care of common ailments.
Ms. Wildcraft has been featured on the cover of Masters of Health magazine for Earth Day. She was spotlighted as an expert in sustainable living by National Geographic, and has hosted online Homesteading Summit for Mother Earth News. For her work in regenerating local food systems, Ms. Wildcraft was honored with the Food Sustainability Media Award from Reuters and the Barilla Foundation. For her implementation of business skills, she was presented with the Student of the Year Award from the Business Finishing School.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Wildcraft intends to continue her work with backyard regenerative food production. She intends to deepen her professional alignment with a number of organizations, including the American Herbalists Guild, The Seed Savers Exchange, The Livestock Conservancy, United Plant Savers, Permaculture Institute, the Organic Consumers Association, Slow Money, Slow Food, Transition Town, the American Botanical Council and the National Gardening Association, to name a few. During her free time, Ms. Wildcraft also contributes as a host of the Annual Home Grown Food Summit and as a volunteer for trail maintenance with the U.S. Forest Service.
