Through Carol Novello's leadership, Humane Society Silicon Valley became the world's first model shelter by meeting all guidelines set forth by the Association of Shelter Veterinarians.

Backed by a wealth of professional experience in the high-tech industry, Ms. Novello is renowned as a business executive turned successful entrepreneur. She initially obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English and economics from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. Subsequently, she graduated with a Master of Business Administration in general management from Harvard Business School in Boston, MA, in 1991. Ms. Novello is skilled in strategic planning, philanthropic fundraising, P&L and general management, change management, strategic marketing, end to end customer experience, small business domain expertise, leadership development and coaching, employee engagement and building high-performance organizations.

Since 2010, Ms. Novello has excelled as president of Human Society Silicon Valley, one of the leading animal welfare organizations in the United States, based out of Milpitas, CA. She previously served as a member of Humane Society Silicon Valley's board of directors for one year. In 2016, she launched Mutual Rescue, a national animal-welfare initiative created under the auspices of Humane Society Silicon Valley. The goal of Mutual Rescue is to elevate the cause of animal welfare to change the conversation from "people or animals" to "people and animals." Of the $410 billion Americans donate to charities every year, only three percent of donations go to animals and the environment combined.

Through Ms. Novello's leadership, Humane Society Silicon Valley became the world's first model shelter by meeting all guidelines set forth by the Association of Shelter Veterinarians. During her tenure, mission results have seen significant increases in intake, adoptions, save rates and animals receiving extended care. Along with being the founder of the Mutual Rescue initiative, Ms. Novello is also the author of "Mutual Rescue, How Adopting a Shelter Animal Can Save You Too" (Grand Central Publishing, April 2019).

For her steadfast commitment and dedication to changing lives, Ms. Novello has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. In 2014, she was the recipient of the Maddie Hero Award from Maddie's Fund and was honored in Harvard Business School's 50 Years of Women in Northern California. In 2011, Ms. Novello was recognized among Silicon Valley Business Journal's 100 Women of Influence as well as a Woman Who's Made Her Mark by the Watermark organization. Additionally, Ms. Novello is a member of the Harvard Business School Alumni Club of Northern California.

Prior to her work with Humane Society Silicon Valley, Ms. Novello dedicated over a decade of her career to Intuit. She served as vice president/general manager of QuickBooks Online from 2006 to 2007, and president of MasterBuilder Software from 2002 to 2006. She additionally worked as vice president of QuickBooks Branded Direct Marketing and Sales and vice president/general manager of Quicken/QuickBooks Checks and Forms for one year. Likewise, Ms. Novello was active as director of Quickbooks' Branded E-Commerce and Direct Marketing in 1999, and as director/group manager of Quicken/QuickBooks Checks and Forms Marketing from 1996 to 1998.

In the earlier years of her career, Ms. Novello flourished as general manager for Cincinnati Microwave's Escort Brand in 1995. She previously found success as a business analyst at American Management Systems from 1991 to 1994. Ms. Novello began her career in the executive development program at Bell Atlantic from 1987 to 1989.

Ms. Novello became involved in her current profession because she wanted to leave behind a sterling legacy, and while she enjoyed her years in high-tech, she could not pass up the unique opportunity to join the board at Human Society Silicon Valley. With the organization's amazing work, she felt that she could take something she was passionate about and make a difference in the lives of both animals and people. Ms. Novello attributes her success to simply wanting to bring more light into the world.
