Dr. Michael S. Mucedola excels as the department chair of the Health, Athletic Training, Recreation and Kinesiology Department.

Throughout his career, he has also worked as a teacher of disadvantaged youth in Auburn and Elmira, New York. An expert in his field, Dr. Mucedola earned a Bachelor of Science in physical education through Ithaca College in 2004. Following this achievement, he received a Master of Science in health education from State University of New York at Cortland before proceeding to attain a Doctor of Philosophy in public health from Walden University in 2012. In order to remain aware of developments in the field, he keenly maintains his affiliation with the American Public Health Association, the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the National Commission for Health Education, NutritonFacts.org, and the Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland Alumni Associations.
Backed by his considerable knowledge, Dr. Mucedola has contributed to such publications as "Culture Based Differentiated Instruction: Connecting Schools With Their Communities," "Teaching the domino effect to combat the rise in unintentional injuries," which was featured in the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, "Integrating presidential history in middle school physical education class" and "Health and physical education advocacy efforts with at-risk youth," which was featured in Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators in 2018, and dozens of other peer-reviewed publications. For his professional accomplishments, he earned the Student Faculty Recognition Award, as well as two Outstanding First Year Student Advocate Awards through Longwood University, a Graduate Studies Research Award, the Maude Glenn Raiford Junior Faculty Teaching Award, and the Maude Glenn Raiford Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Mucedola was also twice nominated and served as a donner for the NAACP: Youth and College Division and the Office of Citizen Leadership and Social Justice Education's Multicultural Gala and Donning of the Kente ceremony, and has been featured in numerous publications throughout the country. In the near future, Dr. Mucedola aims to continue working as a farmer, during which he aspires to grow produce and enjoy the outdoors.
