Dr. Stanley is renowned as a minister and consultant with more than 50 years of service to her community and discipline. She initially pursued an education at Morgan State College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1951 and a Master of Arts in 1972, having intended to pursue a career in medicine before being called to ministry. She subsequently obtained a Master of Arts in theology at Saint Mary Seminary and University in Baltimore, and completed postgraduate coursework at Fordham University from 1989 to 1991. Dr. Stanley concluded her academic efforts in 2001 with a Doctor of Philosophy from the American College of Theology.

From 1958 to 1983, Dr. Stanley began her career as a teacher and a curriculum coordinator for Baltimore City Public Schools. In 1984, she worked as the director of propagation of faith for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore, the first layperson to hold the role. She remained with the Archdiocese of Baltimore until 1995, when she accepted a position with the Saint Matthew Roman Catholic Church in Baltimore, for which she served as the coordinator of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults from 1996 until her retirement in 1999.

In addition to her work in education and lay ministry, Dr. Stanley has excelled as a playwright, having authored and produced the original works "It's Your Own Funeral" in 1980, and "A Miracle on 22nd Street" in 1980. A former member of the board of directors of Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore and the International Sisters in Struggle, she was additionally active as an associate pastor at Saint Ann's Parish. Moreover, Dr. Stanley is the recipient of a Service Award from the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
