Dr. Lee began teaching at Saint Mary's Dental Hospital at the Catholic University of Korea in 1985, where he remains active as a tenured professor in the department of prosthodontic and implantology. In 2002, he established the graduate school of dental science at the aforementioned university, where he previously served as the vice dean and the dean. He also worked as the chair of the esthetic dentistry department and the dental implantology department in the graduate school of dental science.
In 2009, Dr. Lee founded the dental hospital at Saint Mary's Hospital in Seoul, which has since grown to become one of the largest dental hospitals of all the medical schools in Korea. In recent years, he has excelled as a developer for a Korean implant venture company. Dr. Lee notably served in the South Korean military between 1979 and 1982.
An accomplished educator, Dr. Lee found further success as a visiting professor at the University of Iowa in the U.S. He also traveled to Germany where he taught in the department of prosthodontics and at the implant clinic at Tubingen Hospital. Within the next year, he plans to retire from academia completely and form his own private practice. Dr. Lee also aspires to pay it forward by sharing his expertise in other developing countries such as North Korea.
Dr. Lee is a founding member of the Korean Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Implantology (KAOMI). Established in 1994 in Seoul, KAOMI is an international science-based forum for all professionals interested in the art and science of implantology. KAOMI has since grown to become one of Korea's leading implant groups with almost 2,700 active members.
A 1979 undergraduate of Seoul National University School of Dentistry, Dr. Lee obtained a Master of Science in dental science and a Doctor of Philosophy in dentistry at Yonsei University of Korea. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship and residency in dentistry at Saint Mary's Hospital at the Catholic University of Korea. Dr. Lee has received numerous Appreciation Awards from myriad universities and academic associations during his career, as well as from workshops and academic conferences funded by the industry.
