Accumulating more than 40 years as an environmental scientist, Mr. Arieti began teaching in 1980 as an adjunct professor at Chesapeake College. He subsequently held teaching appointments at several other institutions during his career, including Montgomery Community College, Waubonsee Community College, Truman College and Ricard J. Daley College, where he taught courses in environmental science and biology. Mr. Arieti has continued to lecture at Oakton Community College since 1987 and has been an instructor of environmental science at Columbia College since 1992.
A seasoned researcher, Mr. Arieti worked on The Sea of Galilee in Israel between 1969 and 1971, which is the lowest freshwater lake on Earth and the second-lowest lake in the world. He also studied the effects of chlorine produced oxidants on Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. He has been employed at several consulting firms in Washington, D.C., since 1980, where he was involved with the fate of pesticides in the soil, the health effects on people working with the dyeing and finishing of textiles, as well as food additives. Additionally, Mr. Arieti worked at the Baltimore Environmental Center as research director, where he was involved with hazardous waste issues, and on the Hudson River, studying the marine life which was prevented from entering waterways used to cool condensers from the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in New York.
The author of two books, Mr. Arieti first published "The Earth is My Patient" in 2005. Based on his own experiences and knowledge, as well as the research he gathered from various newspapers, books, magazines and electronic media, the book focuses on the real causes of environmental pollution and their solutions. His second book, "Prognosis Disaster: The Environment, Climate Change, Human Influences, Vectors, Disease and the Possible End of Humanity?" was published in 2011. Centered on human induced environmental change and disease, most of this book deals with how humans influence the creation and spread of diseases old and new.
Acquiring a Bachelor of Arts in science at the University of Denver in 1967, Mr. Arieti later completed a Master of Science in marine science at Long Island University in 1974. He is a certified fiber counter, asbestos contractor, supervisor, and project supervisor. Mr. Arieti is also a certified scuba diver.
Mr. Arieti is a member of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. The international association is comprised of physicians and associated professionals interested in the clinical aspects of ecological or environmental illnesses. In 1996, Mr. Arieti was named Best Part-Time Teacher at Columbia College. He was later named Best Part-Time Teacher at Oakton Community College in 2002 and Best Part-Time Teacher at Richard J. Daley College in 2005. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been included in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.
