Dr. Wilson is a retired vice chancellor and emeritus professor of education of 31 years. In that role, he served as vice chancellor for academic programs where he created the Affirmative Action program at UCLA and served as vice chancellor for student development. Dr. Wilson has since become involved in the publishing industry. Working as the chief executive officer, the president and the publisher of Wave Publications in Los Angeles between 1987 and 1993, he later served as the president of Czand Associates, a consulting company in Pacific Palisades, CA in 1994 and the chief executive officer of Wave Community Newspapers, a weekly paper that focuses on the Black and Hispanic community, in Los Angeles in 1997. Authoring the book "Organizational Decision-Making" in 1967, Dr. Wilson later published an autobiography called "Crossing Learning Boundaries by Choice (Blacks Must Save Themselves)" in 2008 and penned multiple articles for various business journals.

During his career, Dr. Wilson was a member of the advisory council for the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco from 1986 to 1988 as well as in 2001. He was also appointed chairman of the African Task Force for the Office of Mayor of Los Angeles from 1986 to 1989, and he was also on the Los Angeles Reform Commission. Dr. Wilson served on the Los Angeles Charter Reform Commission. He was the Grand Marshall of the Kingdom Day Parade on Martin Luther King Day in Los Angeles in 1987, the chair of the Los Angeles Mayor's Task Force on Africa from 1979 to 1982 and a member of the UN Association Panel for Advancement of U.S. and Japan Relations in New York City from 1972 to 1974. Furthermore, Dr. Wilson was active as a member of the Committee on Los Angeles City Revenue from 1975 to 1976 and the board of directors of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from 1972 to 1984.

Dr. Wilson is affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Economic Association, the National Newspaper Publication Association and the American Management Association, Dr. Wilson is also a member, the past president and a pledge master of Alpha Phi Alpha, a member and the past president of the Order of Artus and a member of Phi Kappa Phi. He previously pursued an education at the University of Illinois, earning a Bachelor of Science in economics in 1952 and a Doctor of Philosophy in economics and statistics in 1956, the second African American ever to do so at the aforementioned academic institute. Dr. Wilson later completed postgraduate coursework in education with a focus on organizational theory at the graduate school of industrial administration at Carnegie University in 1961.

He has recently been awarded the Afred Edwards Award for service to the National Economic Association for originating and organizing the National Economic Association 50 years ago. The recipient of a Jackie Robinson Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006, Dr. Wilson was previously recognized among the Young Men of the Year by the United States Junior Chamber in 1965. He has been notably designated as a Ford Foundation fellow, John Hay Whitney fellow, American Council of Education fellow at the University of California at Los Angeles and Aspen Institute for Human Studies fellow. Dr. Wilson has been selected for inclusion in approximately 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Finance and Industry.

Born in Greenwood, Miss., Dr. Wilson struggled in junior high school because he did not like their school system. Leaving for Chicago after high school with just $60 in his pocket, he was able to attend college with the help of friends who had previously migrated to Chicago from Mississippi. The proud father of seven children, Dr. Wilson has since welcomed seven grandchildren into his family.
