EDMONDS, WA, December 16, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Lloyd Philip Johnson, MD, FACS, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Johnson celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Johnson's life began in 1931with early inspiration from his physician father, Philip S. Johnson, M.D of Yakima, Washington, leading to college at the University of Washington and medical school, graduating in 1956. Then internship at San Francisco Hospital. Starting July 1957 he served for two years as Flight Surgeon in the USAF. Johnson returned in 1959 for six years of surgical residency at the University of Washington. By 1965, after American Board of Surgery certification and subsequent election to the American College of Surgeons, he became a professor of surgery in the Haile Selassie University of Ethiopia at its Public Health College in Gondar, with eager students and the only hospital for two million people.
Returning to Seattle in 1968 for the practice of surgery over the next 28 years, led to appointment as Clinical Professor at the UW. He retained an interest internationally, subsequently serving for several weeks at a time with international NGOs as a volunteer surgeon in Kenya, India and the border of Afghanistan, all in local hospitals. Along the way he served in 1991 as President of Seattle Surgical Society and participated in multiple professional organizations and activities. He authored with others, 26 peer reviewed articles and developed an intra-tracheal catheter for direct oxygen delivery.
On retirement from surgical practice in 1996, Johnson became a volunteer executive director of an NGO, based in Seattle, but working in Kyrgyzstan. Nearly 100 health professionals and other educators in universities, as well as community development experts came from 12 countries of the world to a country left destitute by collapse of the Soviet Union. The organization developed with the Ministry of Health, much needed family medicine, by appropriate training of young physicians. While stepping out of the day-to-day administration in 2001, Johnson remained on the board of directors for seven more years, continuing frequent travels there.
His third career resulted from a visit to Israel/Palestine in 2008 on return from Central Asia with his wife Marianne. Standing by the 26' wall of imprisonment in Bethlehem, their lives changed as they heard their new friends tell their stories of oppression, pleading to let Americans know the truth of what happens behind the wall. The couple dedicated the rest of their lives to advocacy, telling the story here in America. Several published books resulted, all but one historical novels of present suffering and past catastrophes, the infamous "Nakba" of 1948. Marianne died in late 2018 while Johnson, also a follower of Jesus, continues to promote peace with justice in the conflict. He enjoys at age 88, his family: four adult children, six grandchildren and Marianne's three adult children and ten grandchildren.
