Forest Clyde Brooks Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Leading a very successful career with the U.S. Army for more than 43 years, Forest Clyde Brooks retired as a civil engineer and a project manager in 2012.

Leading a very successful career with the U.S. Army for more than 43 years, Mr. Brooks retired as a civil engineer and a project manager in 2012. Working for both the Alaska and the Seattle Corps Districts, he was initially hired in 1969 as a survey crew member in Eureka, MT. He subsequently flourished as an engineer trainee, a hydraulic engineer, a study manager assistant, a study manager, and a project manager in Seattle. During his tenure, Mr. Brooks was responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance phases of projects for flood damage reduction, hydropower, river and beach erosion prevention, recreation, navigation and environmental restoration.

While working in Alaska, in addition to normal duties, Mr. Brooks was active as a National Coordinator for the Corps' Small Boat Harbor Planning Center of Expertise. He was also the Pacific Ocean division's Regional Program Manager for the Corps' National Food Risk Management Planning Center of Expertise and an instructor for the Corps' Plan Formulation Workshop, Planner Orientation Course and Small Boat Harbor Course. During his years as project manager, Mr. Brooks also enjoyed the many opportunities to present at public meetings within the local community. In fact, due to his knowledge of covering the river basins in Seattle district, he was asked to join the newly formed Veterans Memorial Museum in Centralia, WA, as a member of the board of directors, where he served for several years. The aforementioned museum focuses on honoring America's veterans through military history exhibits and special events. After moving to Alaska, Mr Brooks was a catalyst that helped the formation of the Alaska Veterans Memorial Museum, serving on the board of directors for 8 years.

Mr. Brooks has thrived in athletics throughout his career as well. A participant of the U.S. Masters Swimming since 1985 with a number of National TOP TEN relay times, and a member of Unlimited's Unanimous, a hobby club for Unlimited Hydroplane Racing since 1968. He recently became a supporter of the Immaculate Conception Academy athletic program in Post Falls, Idaho, in 2016. A former athletic program coach for the Seattle Preparatory High School between 1965 and 2000, he formerly also contributed to the athletic program for Seattle University. Mr. Brooks also coached multiple sports for the Catholic Youth Organization at Saint Edward's Parish Elementary School in Seattle, Babe Ruth Baseball in Eureka and Libby, MT, and the junior high school football team in Libby.

Affiliated with the Unlimited Newsjournal, Mr. Brooks found success as a co-editor of the monthly newsletter from 1981 to 1988. He also co-authored the Seattle Seafair Race Program from 1982 to 1989. He notably earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering, magna cum laude, from Seattle University in 1970. Mr. Brooks is also a 1980 graduate of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USCOE) Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors Planning Associates Program, a 10-month program that included in-class and field training in all aspects of the Corps of Engineers' civil works program.

Mr. Brooks is a member of several professional organizations, including the Army Engines Association, the Steamship Historical Society of America, the National Building Museum, the Veterans Memorial Museum (Chehalis, WA), Alaska Museum (Anchorage, AK) and Motts Military Museum (Greenport, OH). He is additionally a member of the national engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi, the national mathematics honor society Pi Mu Epsilon and the national Jesuit honor society Alpha Sigma Nu. Inducted Seattle Preparatory School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995 and to the Seattle University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016, he also received the Bronze Level De Fleury Medal from the Army Engineer Association. Among other recognitions, he was honored by the USCOE with two Superior Civilian Service Awards and as the Civil Project Manager of the Year. He attributes his successes to his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as he progressed in his career. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Brooks has been featured in Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
