He likewise found success as the chairman of the utilities and planning committee. In his leadership role as a liaison with the school's architects for a number of years, Dr. Manche immeasurably contributed to the permanence of York College as an additional CUNY senior college, located in Jamaica, New York. Dr. Manche is notably an expert in instrumental analysis, which is the field of analytical chemistry that investigates analytes using scientific instruments. He successfully fully computerized the instrumental analysis laboratory.
Hired as a research chemist at American Chicle Company in Long Island, New York, in 1956, Dr. Manche later continued his career as an advanced research engineer at General Telephone and Electronics Research Laboratories in Bayside, New York. Additionally, he was a fellow and lecturer at Brooklyn College, CUNY, as well as a part time faculty member as Coadjutant Professor of Chemistry at Rutgers University in New Jersey between 1962 and 1973. Dr. Manche was a member of the American Chemical Society, as well as the honorable societies of Phi Lambda Upsilon and Sigma Xi.
An alumnus of CUNY, Dr. Manche received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1956 and a Master of Arts in chemistry in 1959. He later attained a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry at Rutgers University in 1965. Dr. Manche served for two years as a sergeant in the U.S. Army between 1952 and 1954, during which time he fought in the Korean War.
Obtaining several grants from such organizations as Hewlett Packard, the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation and the Professional Staff of Congress/Board of Higher Education for his research, Dr. Manche subsequently acquired a patent in the determination of the acceleration of gravity. As a result of his research, he has contributed a voluminous amount articles to myriad professional journals. In 1975, Dr. Manche was awarded an Outstanding Educator of America Award. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education.
