Throughout his career thus far, he has conducted a plethora of research ranging from fields of vibration energy harvesting, magnetic levitation, and restorative dental composites.
GERMANTOWN, MD, December 18, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sri Vikram Palagummi, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Palagummi is passionate about applied physics problems and has been working in related fields for numerous years. Today, he excels as a visiting scientist with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg. Dr. Palagummi holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, which he earned with honors in 2009. Subsequently, he attended North Carolina State University (NCSU) and received his Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in mechanical engineering in 2011 and 2015, respectively.
Throughout his career thus far, he has conducted a plethora of research ranging from fields of vibration energy harvesting, magnetic levitation, and restorative dental composites. For instance, he has been involved in the development of novel passive magnetic levitation systems, such as his article 'A bi-stable horizontal diamagnetic levitation based low frequency vibration energy harvester' in Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, with the help of support from NSF while he was at NCSU. Since joining NIST, he has made significant technical contributions to the Biomaterials for Oral Health Project. At NIST, he helped advance the accuracy and usability of the NIST Standard Reference Instrument 6005 ‐ Polymerization Stress Tensometer. In addition, he has worked to determine the relevant photocuring conditions, with relation to the inherent material properties of dental composites, to achieve acceptable photopolymerization properties such as polymerization shrinkage stress, degree of conversion and depth of cure. This work provides a database of various light-curing conditions that can be applied in the photopolymerization process, which can potentially serve as the basis for accurate guidelines in clinical practice and provide guidance to dental composite material manufacturers.
He currently retains his professional alignment with the International Association of Dental Research. Also, he has provided his expertise to numerous journals, such as, Smart Materials and Structures, Journal of magnetism and magnetic materials, Structural Health Monitoring, Journal of Energy Engineering, and many more.
Due to his outstanding work in the field, Dr. Palagummi was awarded with the third best Student Paper/Presentation Award through SPIE Smart Structures/NDE in 2013, the SPIE Student Travel Grant in 2015, and the Best Reviewer Award through the journal Sensors and Actuators A: Physical in 2018. Adjacent to his career, he is happily married to his wife, Harika Santapuri. Looking forward into the future, Dr. Palagummi aspires to become a professor at a university.
