Dr. Hubert McAlexander is proud to have been eponymously honored with a chairperson position at the University of Mississippi's department of English.
ATHENS, GA, December 20, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hubert McAlexander has been included in Marquis Who's Who. After accruing decades of practiced experience in education, Dr. McAlexander became designated as the Josiah Meigs professor emeritus of English at the University of Georgia in 2010. Previously, he worked for the aforementioned university as a professor from 1993 to 2009, an associate professor from 1980 to 1993 and an assistant professor during the 1970s. Before joining the faculty of the University of Georgia, Dr. McAlexander gained valuable expertise in education as an assistant professor of English at Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University and as an English instructor at the University of Mississippi.
Over the years, Dr. McAlexander has also worked as a consultant for the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi, a member of the Lamar Memorial Lectures Committee at Mercer University and as a member of the Phinizy Lectures Committee at the University of Georgia. In a career filled with highlights, he is proud to have been eponymously honored with a chairperson position at the University of Mississippi's department of English. A devoted community advocate, Dr. McAlexander contributes to the less fortunate as a trustee for Preserve Marshall County and Holly Springs.
In the late 1950s, Dr. McAlexander pursued a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature at the University of Mississippi. He subsequently returned to his alma mater to obtain a Master of Arts in the same subject before graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Doctor of Philosophy in English language and literature. He retains his professional alignment with the American Literature Association, the Modern Language Association and the Society for the Study of Southern Literature. Moreover, Dr. McAlexander has provided his time, resources and support to the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation.
With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. McAlexander authored and co-authored a number of works throughout his career, including "McAlexander: The Family History," "Francis Fontaine the Builder, 1715-1785," "The Prodigal Daughter," "A Southern Tapestry," "Peter Taylor: A Writer's Life," "Four Centuries of a Mississippi Landscape" and "Chalmers Institute, 1837-1879." For his outstanding efforts in education, he was honored with features in Who's Who in the South and Southwest and several volumes of Who's Who in America. Looking toward the future, Dr. McAlexander intends to continue his endeavors as a professor emeritus with the University of Georgia.
