A celebrated behavioral health practitioner and administrator, Mr. Markwood has led a diversified career in the field for more than 40 years. Since 2011 he has been the corporate director of prevention services at Chestnut Health Systems in Bloomington, Illinois. Chestnut offers a comprehensive scope of behavioral health and human services in Southern and Central Illinois. Originally hired in 1987 as a prevention area coordinator, he contributed for eight years in this role before becoming a prevention projects coordinator for another 15 years. Prior to his work in prevention, Mr. Markwood also excelled as a school psychologist in Massachusetts and Illinois public schools.
For more than three decades, Mr. Markwood has played an instrumental role with several organizations. Prior to relocating to Illinois in 1987, Mr. Markwood was a volunteer mediator for the Children's Hearings Project in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was a governing board member and the president for Operation Snowball, Inc. in Illinois during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He then served the Illinois Council for the Prevention of Violence from 1995 to 2000, as youth violence prevention committee chair, governing board member, and board chairman.
An alumnus of the University of Rochester, Mr. Markwood received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1976, and attended Alfred University, where he acquired a Master of Arts in psychology in 1977. He subsequently obtained a certificate of advanced graduate study from Boston University in 1991. Honored with a Prevention Coalition grant from the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention in 1995, he was also the recipient of a Leadership Award from the Illinois Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Association in 1997. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Markwood has been included in the 25th and 26th editions of Who's Who in the Midwest.
