Dr. Mary Jane Celli accepted a Community Service Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in 2010.

A city councilwoman for Long Branch since 1994, Dr. Celli has played an instrumental role in her community for many years. Employed at Fort Monmouth, a former installation of the Department of the Army in Monmouth County, NJ, she was initially hired as a clerk typist in 1960 and subsequently held numerous roles over the course of nearly 35 years, including the chief of programs product assurance, the chief of program management and the chief of strategic programs, until retiring in 1994. Additionally, Dr. Celli has excelled as the owner of Celli's Antiques, a boutique shop on Morris Avenue in the center of Long Branch, since 1958.
Moreover, Dr. Celli has provided her expertise to the board of directors of First Atlantic Federal Credit Union. Among her numerous civic activities, she was active with the Long Branch Planning Board and the Long Branch Library Board, for which she was a secretary. Notably, Dr. Celli is a proud military veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force.
Returning to school after her husband became ill, Dr. Celli knew that she wanted to attain an education so that she could better provide for her family, if necessary. Initially pursuing her education at Brookdale Community College, she earned an associate degree in 1978. She soon after transferred to Kean University, where she received a B.S. in Business Management. From there, she received a master's degree at the University of Virginia in 1983. Concluding her academic efforts with a Doctor of Education at Temple University in 1988, Dr. Celli is additionally certified as a professional manager and teacher and, since 2018, a notary public.
Associated with several professional organizations throughout her career, Dr. Celli has been affiliated with the League of Women Voters, Elks, Rotary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, among others. She is also a member and former state and chapter president of the National Active and Retired Federal Retirees. Furthermore, Dr. Celli is an honorary member of four local fire companies.
Dr. Celli was presented with a Mid-Career fellowship from the U.S. Government at the University of Virginia between 1982 and 1983. Honored with a Libutti Community Services Award in 1996, she also accepted a Community Service Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in 2010. Furthermore, Dr. Celli is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been featured in the 19th and 21st editions of Who's Who of American Women.
