COLUMBUS, NE, December 23, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wade Howles, DMA, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. A respected musical voice in his community, Dr. Howles excels as a music educator at Lakeview Community Schools in Nebraska after a lifetime of fulfillment from music. He initially received a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in K-12 instrumental and vocal music education from Northwest Missouri State University in 2008. Dr. Howles concluded his academic efforts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earning a Master of Music in saxophone performance in 2010 and a Doctor of Musical Arts in saxophone performance in 2017.
Since 2015, Mr. Howles has found success as the 5th thru 12th grade band director at Lakeview Community Schools in Columbus, NE where he has increased participation in instrumental music 40% across the district. Previously, Dr. Howles worked as an adjunct instructor of saxophone and instrumental jazz at Doane University in Crete, NE, from 2010 to 2014 and a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2009 to 2013. Additionally, he is the coordinator of the annual Columbus TubaChristmas community concert, which has been hosted in Columbus since 2018.
On top of his numerous appearances and collaborations with jazz bands and schools in Nebraska and Missouri, Dr. Howles was a key musician in accruing the honors of Best Collegiate Jazz Ensemble for the album Homegrown from Downbeat Magazine in 2011, Best Collegiate Jazz Ensemble at the University of Kansas Jazz Festival in 2011 and 2012 and Outstanding Collegiate Jazz Ensemble at the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival at the University of Nebraska in 2013. He is a frequent performer at the International Saxophone Symposium as well as regional and national conferences of the North American Saxophone Alliance.
Dr. Howles has accepted various awards for his work as a conductor and band leader. Most recently, in 2019, he was presented with the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association's Outstanding Young Director Award. His bands at Lakeview have received the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association's Academic Achievement Award in 2016, 2018, and 2019, in addition to numerous first place and excellent ratings at the regional and state levels.
Dr. Howles attributes his success to his very supportive family, especially his mother, who was an elementary school teacher. His parents purchased his first saxophone, as well as anything he needed to succeed in the music world. They attended every performance and encouraged him to join district honor bands as well as to audition for music scholarships. Once he enrolled in graduate school, Dr. Howles met his wife, who remains a great support system for his musical endeavors.
Dr. Howles is a member of the district school improvement steering committee and negotiations committee for Lakeview Community Schools. Likewise, he is affiliated with the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the College Music Society, the Jazz Educators Network, the National Association for Music Education, the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association, and the North American Saxophone Alliance. Dr. Howles has also thrived as a board member and director for the Northeast Nebraska All-Star Marching Band Camp.
