Ms. Gallup is a recently retired information systems consultant who concluded her career in 2019. Leading a diversified career for more than 50 years, she held several high-level positions, such as the general manager of EOS International, a software company in Boston, within the libraries at several institutions like the University of Pennsylvania and Dartmouth College and as a senior engineer at Creare, Inc. an engineering consulting company in Hanover, New Hampshire. In 1987, Ms. Gallup began a second career in academia as a lecturer for the U.S. Information Agency in Europe. She became an adjunct professor at Drexel University in 1989, where she taught a variety of courses.
A native of New Jersey, Ms. Gallup attended college at the University of Maryland, receiving a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and physics. She subsequently matriculated at American University, from which she acquired a Master of Public Administration in information science. A gifted writer, Ms. Gallup contributed numerous articles to various scholarly and professional publications under the name, Emily Gallup Fayen. With F.W. Lancaster, she co-authored Information Retrieval On-Line, one of the first books devoted to computer-based information systems.
To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Gallup has been an active member of the American Library Association and the Association of Computing Machinery. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences where she served on the National Research Council taskforce to Indonesia between 1986 and 1987 and has continued to serve on the Association of Research Libraries/Interlibrary Loan taskforce since 1993. Additionally, she is a member of the American Society for Information Science, where she served in several capacities. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Gallup has been showcased in Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in the Media and Communication.
