After accruing more than 35 years of professional excellence, Ms. Dixon retired from her role as superintendent with the Taconic Correctional Facility in 2005, a role she held for five years. Previously, she held the same position with Edgecombe Correctional Facility from 1998 to 2000 and Bayview Correctional Facility from 1990 to 1998. At the inception of her career, she gained valuable expertise with New York City Office of Probation and the New York State Division of Parole as a probation officer and parole officer, respectively. Over the years, she also lent her expertise to the New York State Department of Correctional Services as the director of inmate grievances and an equal employment specialist, the Parole Transition Project Return Foundation as director, and Sing Sing Correctional Facility as an assistant deputy superintendent, among other positions. Throughout her career, she has gained a significant understanding of the administrative structure of public affairs as a National Urban Fellow, which changed the course of her life.
An expert in her field, Ms. Dixon holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Upsala College, a Master of Arts in urban studies from Occidental College and a Master of Public Administration from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In her spare time, she contributes to her community as founder and executive director of Chiku Awali African Dance, Arts & Culture, Inc. and Queen Mother of Progress for Bepoase, a small village in the Ashanti region of Ghana, West Africa. In addition, in the early years of her career, she also gave back to her community through the Black Political Caucus of Rockland and the Arts Council of Rockland.
Due to her outstanding work in the field, Ms. Dixon was honored with the Frank Logue Alumni Award from National Urban Fellows, the "It Takes a Whole Community" Award through the Child Care Resources of Rockland, and the Mother of the Year Award through the Rockland County chapter of Jack and Jill of America. Publications such as Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America have also honored her for her work. Ms. Dixon is the proud mother of Delaina A. Dixon and Deshala T. Murray. Looking ahead, Ms. Dixon intends to enjoy her well-deserved retirement.
