Dr. Jacobs began her career as a lecturer and an instructor for Hadassah Medical School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Subsequently, she worked as a research associate for the Salk Institute of Biological Studies, an associate professor of microbiology and a full professor at the University at Buffalo. For the remainder of the 1980s, Dr. Jacobs served the aforementioned university as a professor.
As her career progressed, Dr. Jacobs gained valuable expertise through professorial and administrative roles for East Carolina University and the University of Central Florida, including as the dean of the graduate school, as associate vice chancellor of research and as the chair of the department of health professions. Between 2008 and 2016, she was active as a professor at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine before retiring and being awarded the title of professor emerita in 2016.
In pursuit of a career in science, Dr. Jacobs earned a Bachelor of Arts from Radcliffe College in 1961 and a Doctor of Philosophy from Harvard University in 1967. Throughout her career, she retained her professional alignment with such organizations as the Oak Ridge Association of Universities, the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools, the Council of Graduate Schools, the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions, and the American Association of Immunologists. Likewise, she was affiliated with the American Society for Microbiology, the New York Academy of Sciences and the Association for Women in Science. Backed by her considerable knowledge, she has contributed her wealth of knowledge to several articles in professional journals, including the Journal of Immunology, Recent Developments in Mucosal Immunity and the Journal of Experimental Medicine. Looking toward the future, Dr. Jacobs intends to continue serving as professor emerita while enjoying her retirement.
