Assuming his role in 1983, he boasts extensive knowledge of antitrust laws and all varieties of business disputes, including commercial litigation and litigation and dispute resolution. To prepare for his career, Mr. Bentz pursued a formal education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration, with distinction, in 1980. He continued his studies at the university and obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with distinction, in 1983, during which he was admitted into the Order of the Coif. While attending law school, he worked as the executive editor of the Nebraska Law Review and was affiliated with the Moot Court Board and Order of the Barrister. After receiving his law degree, Mr. Bentz was admitted to practice law in Missouri, Nebraska and Kansas. Moreover, he has appeared before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Circuits, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri and District of Kansas, the Supreme Courts of Missouri and Kansas, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
To remain aware of developments in his field, Mr. Bentz has maintained his affiliation with several organizations, such as the Nebraska Bar Association, Kansas Bar Association, Missouri Bar Association, Lawyers Association of Kansas City, and American Health Lawyers Association. A member of the Antitrust Section of the American Bar Association, he has served the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association in numerous capacities, including as the president, vice president, board director, audit committee member, and chair of the Bar Headquarters Task Force. Likewise, Mr. Bentz is a former secretary and president of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation, where he currently serves as a lifetime member of the Bar Foundation Board.
Equally passionate about his community, Mr. Bentz has dedicated his time to civic involvement. He has sat on the Saint Luke's Health System Board of Directors since 2014, the Saint Luke's South Hospital Board of Directors since 2008, the Saint Luke's Hospital Board of Directors since 2005, and the Saint Luke's Physician Group Board of Directors since 2017. A past president of the Interest on Lawyer Trust Account Board in 2006, Mr. Bentz has also been a senior warden of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church since 2015 and previously from 2003 to 2004.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Bentz has accrued several accolades and honors. Named "Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers for Litigation and Antitrust Law in Kansas City, Missouri, for 2020, he was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers of America in the fields of commercial litigation and litigation-antitrust between 2012 and 2020. Furthermore, he was named "Best of the Bar-Business Litigation" by the Kansas City Business Journal, was selected for inclusion in Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers from 2011 to 2018, and was the recipient of the KCMBA President's Award for Outstanding Service in 2010. Earlier in his career, Mr. Bentz earned the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation President's Award for Outstanding Service in 2004.
