Supported by more than 55 years of practiced excellence in education, Dr. Caulfield currently serves as the chief executive officer and president of The Brain, Inc., for which she has maintained activity since 2001. Formerly appointed to the Missouri Council of Humanities by the governor, she has also been a board member of the Wonderscope Science Museum and Jordan Park School in Kansas City. Prior to obtaining her current positions, she excelled as an adjunct professor at St. Louis University from 1997 to 2001 and served Rockhurst University in myriad roles beginning in 1972. At Rockhurst, Dr. Caulfield was the director of the English Institute, coordinator of school college relations, chairman of the education department, and on the board of regents.
Previously, Dr. Caulfield served as a part-time instructor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the assistant superintendent for the City of Kansas City, and the principal at both the Lincoln College Preparatory Academy and Nowlin Junior High School between 1984 and 1989. Earlier, she was an assistant principal at Southeast High School in Kansas City in 1984, a teacher of Spanish and Drench at Bingham Junior High School from 1968 to 1978, and a teacher of Spanish at Kansas City Public Schools from 1963 until 1968. Alongside her primary endeavors, Dr. Caulfield was a member of the steering committee of the Brain-Based Learning Network, facilitator and assessor of the department of elementary and secondary education for the State of Missouri, and a member of the women's council board at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she has been serving as the president since 1998. Furthermore, she is a past visiting social scientist of the Midwest Research Institute and an adjunct professor at Baker University.
Civically involved as well, Dr. Caulfield has been active with the Sister City Commission since 1980 and previously served on the Kansas Quality Performance Assessment Team and Metro-Vision Task Force. She sat on the board of directors of the Kansas City chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, Saint Theresa's Academy, and the Kansas City Academy of Learning at the KIPP School. A past trustee of the Kansas City Public Library, Dr. Caulfield was notably a member of the humanitarian project to the Ukraine with her local Rotary Club in 2006.
Prior to embarking upon her professional path, Dr. Caulfield pursued a formal education at the University of Missouri, where she graduated, with cum laude honors, with a Bachelor of Science in education in 1963. She also earned a Master of Arts in Spanish and a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Missouri in 1965 and 1978, respectively. Previously, she completed her undergraduate studies as a Mexican Government Scholar at the National University of Mexico between 1962 and 1963. A prolific author as well, Dr. Caulfield co-authored "Inciting Learning: A Guide to Brain Compatible Instructor" and "The Adolescent Brain," which won for her the Honorary Alumni Award from the University of Missouri College of Education in 2006.
Dr. Caulfield maintains her affiliation with the Modern Language Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Missouri Middle School Association, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Likewise, she was a state scholar and contributed to the Bulletin journal of Delta Kappa Gamma. As a testament to her success, Dr. Caulfield was named as an Outstanding Secondary Educator in 1973 and a Distinguished Alumnus from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2006.
