She received an Associate of Science in culinary arts from Hampshire College in 1992 and is now the owner and head chef of her business, Kern's Family Kitchen. Prior to owning Kern's Family Kitchen, Ms. Kern worked in the transportation industry for several years. From 2002 to 2008 she served as a school bus operator with First Student and was an operator with Metro Transit from 2008 to 2019. Ms. Kern had also been a garage instructor at Haywood Garage.
The switch back to her passion was not simple, but Ms. Kern is proud to now be the proprietor of her own family-style restaurant. Ms. Kern attributes her success to the passion she has for what she does, as well as the compassion she displays for others and her constant dedication in improving her skills. In her free time, Ms. Kern enjoys spending time with her husband and her son, Nathan Blodgett.
