Mr. Robert A. Sedler was presented with the Champion of Justice Award from the State Bar of Michigan in 2014 and the Champion of Justice Award from the Michigan Association for Justice in 2019.

With nearly 60 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Sedler has excelled at Wayne State University as a professor of law since 1977 and a distinguished professor of law since 2000. During this time, he worked at Wayne State University as the president of the Academy of Scholars from 2007 to 2008 and the Gibbs chair of civil rights and civil liberty from 2000 to 2005. Prior to these appointments, he held the positions of an associate professor of law and a professor of law at the University of Kentucky between 1966 and 1977. Previously, he served as an associate professor of law and an assistant dean at Addis Ababa University from 1963 until 1966. Mr. Sedler began his career at Saint Louis University as an assistant professor and an associate professor of law from 1961 to 1965.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Sedler pursued an education at the University of Pittsburgh, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1956. He concluded his studies at the aforementioned university in 1959, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Sedler was admitted to practice law by the District of Columbia Bar, the Kentucky Bar Association in 1968, the State Bar of Michigan in 1979 and the Supreme Court of the United States in 1969.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Sedler has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. From 1971 to 1976, he has contributed to the ACLU of Kentucky as general counsel. He found success with his written works as well, authoring "Across State Lines: Applying the Conflict of Laws to Your Practice" in 1989, two editions of "Constitutional Law in the United States" in 2017 and 2019, and myriad articles for legal periodicals and journals. Mr. Sedler additionally co-authored "Ethiopian Civil Procedure" in 1968 and "The Sum and Substance of Conflict of Laws" in 1987.

In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Sedler remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has maintained his involvement with the American Bar Association and the American Association of University Professors. Mr. Sedler is also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society and the Order of the Coif.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Sedler has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. An honorary professor of Ural State Law University, he was recognized as a Gershenson Distinguished Faculty fellow of Wayne State University from 1985 to 1987.

Moreover, he was presented with the Bernard Gottfried Bill of Rights Day Award from the Metropolitan Detroit branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, the John W. Reed Michigan Lawyer Legacy Award in 2012, the Champion of Justice Award from the State Bar of Michigan in 2014 and the Champion of Justice Award from the Michigan Association for Justice in 2019. Likewise, Mr. Sedler was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.

Inspired to become a lawyer as a teenager, Mr. Sedler was mentored by a number of senior faculty members at the University of Pittsburgh. He is incredibly proud of his work on a number of notable school desegregation cases throughout Kentucky in the early 1970s. Furthermore, Mr. Sedler has found much satisfaction from his ability to influence students, including Dana Nessel, who would since become the Attorney General for the state of Michigan, and an instrumental figure in landmark court cases such as DeBoer v. Snyder and Obergefell v. Hodges.
