Ms. Galvan is a retired critical care nurse with more than 49 years of expertise in her profession. She initially became fascinated with nursing while coming of age, having read a series of books featuring a young nurse as their main character. Inspired, Ms. Galvan attended Harris College of Nursing, Texas Christian University where she earned a Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing in 1970.
While undertaking undergraduate coursework, Ms. Galvan enlisted in the U.S. Navy after becoming aware of a nursing scholarship program they offered. She served from 1968 until 1973, attaining the rank of a lieutenant. In 1976, Ms. Galvan completed a Master of Science in nursing at the University of Texas, and pursued further postgraduate studies at East Texas State University throughout the 1990s. She is a certified Clinical Nurse Specialist, Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), and Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN).
From 1973 to 1975, Ms. Galvan worked with the Memorial Medical Center in Corpus Christi. She became a clinical nurse specialist at Fort Howard, Maryland, between 1976 and 1978, when she returned to the Memorial Medical Center of Corpus Christi as a clinical nurse specialist and assistant head nurse. Ms. Galvan would maintain activity at the Memorial Medical Center through 1983.
From 1983 until 1989, Ms. Galvan joined the staff of the University of Texas at Tyler as an assistant professor. She excelled as an associate professor at the Texas Tech Health University Sciences Center School of Nursing from 1989 until 2008. In concluding her career path, Ms. Galvan worked as a charge nurse and wound care specialist at Covenant Medical Center from 2008 until her retirement in 2019. She continues to volunteer as a nurse with West Texas Karate of Lubbock, and is a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the Emergency Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau, the International Nursing Honor Society.
