NEW YORK, NY, January 13, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Leonard Singer Gold with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Gold celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A renowned librarian, translator and curator, Dr. Gold dedicated more than three decades to his field before retiring. He started his career as a high school teacher in Kiryat Haim, Israel, and after a year in the position, he transferred to Hugim High School in Haifa, Israel. Dr. Gold distinguished himself during this time by teaching both English and Hebrew at these schools.
To assist in furthering his career, Dr. Gold and his wife decided to immigrate to the United States, where they settled in New York. With fluent knowledge of English, Hebrew, and French, he was able to obtain a position as a technical assistant at the New York Public Library, where he spent the remainder of his career. Throughout this time, Dr. Gold served the library as the chief of the Dorot Jewish Division, a bibliographer of Jewish studies, and the assistant director of Jewish, Oriental and Slavonic studies. He retired in 1998.
One of the highlights of Dr. Gold's career was curating the "A Sign and A Witness: 2000 Years of Hebrew Books and Illuminated Manuscripts" exhibition at the New York Public Library between 1988 and 1989. The work was connected to his Aster fellowship, which gave him the resources necessary to travel through Europe, Israel and Egypt in order to examine and study Hebrew manuscripts and negotiate their loan for the exhibition. Dr. Gold is also proud of his presentation, "The Dead Sea Scrolls: Ancient Civilization, Modern Scholarship," which ran at the New York Public Library between 1993 and 1994.
In his civic endeavors, Dr. Gold excelled as the chairman of the Jewish and Middle East studies program committee for Research Libraries Group, Inc. from 1989 to 1991, and between 1979 and 1994, he was the associate editor of Jewish Book Annual. He also garnered experience as the vice president and president of the Jewish Book Council, the president of the Council of Archives and Research Libraries in Jewish Studies, and a member of the editorial committee of the Jewish Publication Society. Dr. Gold remains involved on the national council of the Jewish Publication Society to this day.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Gold attended McGill University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1956. He proceeded to attain a Master of Science in library service from Columbia University in 1966, after which he matriculated at New York University, from which he received a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1967 and 1975, respectively. Dr. Gold also completed coursework at the C. Redmond Art Students League between 1998 and 2001 and became a certified professional librarian in the state of New York.
