Dr. Lewin is board-certified in gynecologic oncology specializing in the diagnosis, treatment and management of ovarian, endometrial, uterine, cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancers. She pursued an education at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, earning a Bachelor of Art in biochemistry in 1997 and a Doctor of Medicine in 2001. Dr. Lewin subsequently completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri in 2005 and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering-Cancer Center in New York City in 2009.
Since 2015, Dr. Lewin has excelled as an assistant clinical professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. She has also flourished as the president and the executive director of the Lewin Fund to Fight Women's Cancers since 2013. In addition to these positions, she has held the post as the director of the gynecologic oncology division at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ, since 2014. In 2009, Dr. Lewin worked as an assistant clinical professor at the Columbia University Medical Center.
Dr. Lewin's practice employs a comprehensive, multidisciplinary team approach to screening, treatment and overall improvement in quality of care for women at high risk for ovarian cancer and other gynecologic malignancies. To ensure all patients with ovarian cancer have the best possible outcome, she performs radical operations in examining the upper abdomen and extended pelvic area to remove all visible signs of cancer, an effort not offered by many gynecologic oncologists. She also has expertise in minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures and robotic techniques. Dr. Lewin is a strong proponent of intraperitoneal chemotherapy and has research interests in novel chemotherapeutic agents, including immunotherapy and hyper thermic chemotherapy for recurrent ovarian cancer.
Dr. Lewin is also the Founder and Executive Director of The Lewin Fund responsible for the organization's operations, and for setting its strategic vision. She is also the organization's chief ambassador, responsible for advancing The Lewin Fund's mission to invest in grassroots initiatives and research that directly support women who are afflicted with cancer and their families. She is a long-time advocate for women and women's health and brings more than 20 years of medical, research, and community outreach experience to her role.
For her contributions to gynecologic research and developments, Dr. Lewin was the recipient of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists' 2004 President's Award. She was also presented with the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics Excellence in Teaching Award and was recognized as the Physician of the Year. She has also been listed in Top Doctors NY/NJ. She is a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Lewin attributes her success to hard work and passion for the field, as well as her mentors and strong family base.
Dr. Lewin became involved in her profession due to the inspiration of her grandmother Gerda Bruno, who was a gynecologist. She has always been interested in women's health care and wanted to be a physician when she was in the third grade. Looking toward the future, Dr. Lewin plans to continue helping women with cancer as well as contribute to advances in the field and growing her foundation to help others on a global level.
