Since 2017, Ms. Clay has found success as the principal of Saint Peter School in Washington, D.C. In this role, she guides every aspect of the pre-kindergarten through eighth grade program, directing faculty, staff and students in both academic and spiritual growth. Furthermore, Ms. Clay is a Eucharistic minister and a lector for Saint Joseph's Parish.
Prior to embarking on her educational career, Ms. Clay attended the University of Michigan, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in communication and English in 1986. Following this success, she dedicated several years to working in public relations before focusing her efforts to raise her two children. Upon moving to Washington, D.C. in 2001, she began to substitute teach at Watkins Elementary School, an experience she found that she deeply enjoyed.
In 2005, Ms. Clay continued her career at the Holy Trinity School in Washington, D.C. where she contributed as a substitute teacher, a teacher/lower school coordinator and an assistant principal. During this time, she notably earned a Master of Education, summa cum laude, in administration and supervision from Marymount University. Well-equipped to serve in multiple areas of Catholic school education, Ms. Clay holds certification in elementary education in the District of Columbia, catechist certification with the Archdiocese of Washington and licensure in administration from the Maryland State Department of Education.
Beyond her primary professional responsibilities, Ms. Clay is a trustee on the employee retirement board for the Archdiocese of Washington. Highly-regarded as an expert in her field, she also serves on the executive board and as the chair of the Washington, D.C. region of the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Looking toward the future, Ms. Clay hopes to consult and work alongside families to figure out the best approach to raising their children.
