Mr. Gillingham began his path to professional financial planning by majoring in economics at Juniata College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1966. In his senior year at Juanita, he was Vice President of the Student Senate. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in 1969. Mr. Gillingham was admitted to practice law by the Virginia State Bar in 1971, and served his country in the United States Army Reserves from 1970 to 1975.
From 1969 to 1971, Mr. Gillingham worked as a tax specialist for Price Waterhouse of Washington, before becoming a tax law specialist for the Internal Revenue Service from 1971 to 1977. He served as a senior tax lawyer for the International Paper Company of New York City from 1977 to 1983, and the director of tax research and planning for the Singer Company from 1983 to 1988. Active as tax counsel for the American Cyanamid Company in Wayne, New Jersey, from 1988 to 1995, Mr. Gillingham refocused his career on financial planning. From 1980 to 1990, Mr. Gillingham maintained his involvement as a lecturer at the World Trade Institute.
From 1995 to 2004, Mr. Gillingham found success as a financial planner with the Thompson Group, Inc. of White Plains, New York. He has since excelled with Financial Planning Associates of White Plains since 2004. Mr. Gillingham is a Certified Financial Planner, and approaches his field as a way to leverage his decades of experience to help clients make decisions which will positively impact their futures. He has been selected as one of America's Top Financial Planners by the Consumers Research Council of America.
Mr. Gillingham is the organizer of the Betty Ann Cherry scholarship at Juniata College since 2018, and considers it an honor to help students access high-quality postsecondary education despite economic need.
