COVINGTON, GA, January 15, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jack Barsky has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, the individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Barsky, who is German by birth, operated for ten years as a sleeper agent for the KGB in the United States. He ceased operations in 1988 and focused on raising his family and a career in Information Technology. When the FBI finally discovered Mr. Barsky in 1997, he co-operated fully and was allowed to stay in the United States where he became a citizen in 2014. He continues to be a valuable resource for US counterintelligence.
After 10 years of expert hands-on computer programming experience, Mr. Barsky launched a career in management which took him to positions of progressively more responsibility in such corporations as MetLife, United Healthcare, Prudential, Con Edison of New York, and NRG Energy. His rise to the level of Chief Information Officer in corporate America is all the more remarkable given the fact that he was raised and educated in the German Democratic Republic, a communist country.
In 2015 Mr. Barsky's life was featured on CBS 60 Minutes under the title "The Spy Among Us". Soon thereafter, Mr. Barsky decided to leave corporate life to focus on his memoir "Deep Undercover" which was published in 2017. The book was subsequently translated into German, Polish and Swedish.
Mr. Barsky has become a sought after public speaker. He has spoken at many locations and events across the United States as well as several European countries. In addition to giving audiences insight into the history of Russia and the KGB, his own life as a sleeper agent and contemporary Russian espionage, Mr. Barsky addresses cyber security issues with a focus on the dangers posed by hostile insiders.
In 1972 Mr. Barsky graduated first in class with a Master's Degree in Chemistry from Friedrich Schiller University, Germany. In 1984 he graduated as valedictorian with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems from Baruch College, New York.
Mr. Barsky is the co-founder of the Albany NY chapter of the Society for Information Management where he served as President for two years. In an effort to give back, he has mentored several students at his alma mater, Baruch College, as well as a number of Master's degree students at Columbia University. He also serves regularly at a local food bank.
