GOLDEN, CO, January 15, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Kwami Sedzro has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Dr. Sedzro has been working at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory for about two years. He has been involved in 5 projects funded by the Department of Energy, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and USAID. The focus of his work is on finding efficient pathways to 100% renewable energy penetration, the resilience of the future power grid to adversarial cyber threats in an IoT era, and renewable marketability. The impact of his work crosses the borders and supports sustainable development in sub-Saharan Africa with distributed energy resource integration and energy regulatory policy development. He is currently leading distributed PV impact analysis work with the electric distribution companies in Ghana through USAID.
Previously, he found success with Lehigh University as a research assistant from 2016 until 2018 and 2014 to 2015, and as a teaching assistant in 2016. Prior to these appointments, Dr. Sedzro gained valuable expertise as a deputy chief executive officer for Grain de Sel Togo, Inc. between 2013 and 2015 and with the Industrial Assessment Center in 2014. His inaugural roles in the field were those of an electrical engineer for System Africa, an electrical engineering instructor at the University of Lome, and a senior energy consultant for K&P Group.
Additionally, from 2007 to 2013, he actively participated in the training of more than 300 engineers, teaching power systems, electric machinery, electronics and electrical wiring courses. He also mentored 2 electrical engineering Master students and more than 20 undergraduates and sat on more 50 thesis committees. He presented his research in national and West-African energy conferences. He pioneered the energy efficiency efforts in Togo (West Africa) and provided consulting services to manufacturing companies, hotels, residential and commercial buildings through K&P Group. His work and research projects garnered significant attention and he was selected as a Fulbright scholar to pursue specialization in energy systems in the United States. He was also the recipient of the P.C. Rossin Doctoral Fellowship Award, and The Dean's Doctoral Assistantship Award from Lehigh University.
His research at Lehigh University, from 2013 to 2018, sustained more than $5 million in funding from university, state agencies, the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation and focused on power systems resiliency, renewable integration and electricity market analysis. This research was disseminated through 3 IEEE Transactions papers, 1 Elsevier/Applied Energy paper, 4 conference papers and an invited contribution to the Homeland Defense and Security Information Analysis Center's (HDIAC) State-of-the-art-report (SOAR). Since 2016, he has had the privilege to serve as a member of the Strategic Advisory Committee of the Energy Systems Engineering Institute at Lehigh University where he gave technical talks co-sponsored by the IEEE Lehigh Valley Section and participated in curriculum and program development discussions.
During his doctoral studies at Lehigh, he supported PJM Interconnection's corporate goal of achieving 95% solar PV forecasting accuracy by developing and deploying a software tool that is capable of evaluating forecasting error and issuing warnings to the forecasting about plants that need increased attention. His work at PJM Interconnection also resulted in software application that detects and reports, via email, abnormal system contingency and priority settings. This tool has been integrated in PJM's EMS system and is currently in production.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Sedzro attended the University of Lome, from which he obtained a Master of Science in electrical engineering in 2006, and a Master of Science in engineering sciences in 2010. Getting into the University of Lome was extremely competitive as it was the only engineering college in Togo, West Africa. Subsequently, he came to the U.S. and received a Master of Engineering in energy systems engineering and a PhD in electrical engineering from Lehigh University.

Growing up in a village without electricity, Dr. Sedzro was inspired to pursue a career in electrical engineering. As a child, he came home from school after dark one day and entered his room. Unable to see anything, he grabbed a candle and, upon his return, found a snake in his room. From that day forward, Dr. Sedzro began to gather batteries together in order to assemble electrical circuits by himself. He made a small system for his room and developed a passion for electricity which continues to drive him.
Dr. Sedzro is a senior member of the IEEE. He volunteered with Feed the Children and served as the president of the U.S. Association for Energy Economics' student chapter from 2014 until 2015.
