Mr. Bozzuto is renowned as a technical professional and consultant with more than 50 years specializing in coal plant emissions reduction technology. He initially pursued an education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science (Chemical Engineering) in 1970. On the recommendation of a friend's father, he applied for a summer job in 1968 working on 502 removal from power plant stacks, where he discovered a talent for combustion technology and the power industry. Mr. Bozzuto concluded his academic efforts with a Master of Science in Management from the Hartford Graduate Center in 1984.
In 1970, Mr. Bozzuto began his career with the R&D department of the boiler group of Combustion Engineering, Inc. He subsequently worked as director of Advanced Systems from 1980 -1982, chief technologist from 1982 -1984, director of marketing from 1984 -1986, and general manager of fluid bed systems from 1986 -1988. In 1988, Combustion Engineering was purchased by ABB, Inc. Subsequently, ABB sold the power businesses to Alstom Power, Inc. Likewise, Mr. Bozzuto found success with the company's Kreisinger Development laboratories through multiple capacities including as director from 1988 -1993 and the vice president of technology from 1994 until his retirement from Alstom Power in 2004. Mr. Bozzuto continued to consult with Alstom Power until 2016. During that time, he served on the Board of Directors of the Council of Industrial Boiler Owners (CIBO) and as the company's representative to MIT. In 2009, Alstom Power published an award winning textbook entitled "Clean Combustion Technologies", for which Mr. Bozzuto was a contributing author and editor in chief.
Mr. Bozzuto notably holds several patents for pollution control technologies and helped commercialize S02 removal technologies and low NOx firing systems. He also led the development and commercialization of fluid bed combustion technology. He has been additionally active as a course instructor for Electric Utility Consultants, Inc. (EUCI) since 2005 and a judge for the Carbon XPRIZE since 2016. Moreover, Mr. Bozzuto is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and an honorary member of the Council of Industrial Boiler Owners.
