A concert pianist and educator, Dr. Verona has accrued more than 35 years of distinction in her field. Raised by avid music enthusiasts, she discovered her talent for playing the piano at a young age, and began teaching lessons at the age of 15. Dr. Verona attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music before earning a Diploma of Professional Study at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, in 1976. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Italian and art history in 1982, and likewise attained a Master of Music at the Manhattan School of Music in 1984. Dr. Verona was awarded a Performer's Certificate from North Illinois University in 1987, and returned to the Manhattan School of Music, after which she received a Doctor of Musical Arts in 1992.
From 1984 until 1985, Dr. Verona served as a teaching assistant in piano and chamber music at Northern Illinois University. She joined the piano faculty of the Fleming School in 1987 and the Calhoun School in 1989. Dr. Verona parleyed her knowledge of playing the piano at the Brooklyn College Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts between 1992 and 2007 and at the Trevor Day School from 1996 to 2003. Since 1999, she has garnered a laudable reputation with the Bloomingdale School of Music as a piano faculty member and resident teaching artist.
Dr. Verona is the author of several works of music history, including "J.S. Bach's Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue: A Study of Virtuoso Keyboard Forms From the 16th to 18th Centuries," published in 1995, and numerous performance notes for concerts. She has delivered solo performances at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and Steinway Hall, as well as at recitals and festivals throughout the United States and Europe. Since 1991, Dr. Verona has provided her expertise to the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a cataloguing and curatorial assistant. Among other accolades, she is the recipient of a 2018 Teacher of the Year award from the Dr. Madeline Frank Educational Radio Show, and dozens of continuing education scholarships throughout her career.
