Prior to this appointment, she served Diagnostic Products Corps. in Los Angeles as an associate director of quality control and production supervisor between 1989 and 1999, as well as Merrel, Inc. as a technical director and operations manager from 1987 to 1988. Likewise, she excelled as the vice president of technology at Innotron-Diagnostic Co. from 1983 until 1987, a principal chemist at Beckman Instruments, Inc. from 1979 to 1983, and the director of quality assurance at the Nichols Institute from 1974 until 1979. Earlier in her career, Dr. Valentekovich maintained activity as the head of radiochemistry at the Curtis Nuclear Co. between 1972 and 1974, the director of quality assurance at Cyclo Chemical Co. in Los Angeles from 1968 to 1972, and a research associate at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles from 1967 until 1968.
Before embarking upon her professional path, Dr. Valentekovich pursued a formal education in her home country of Croatia, where she attended the University of Zagreb and earned a Master of Science in chemical engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry in 1957 and 1963, respectively. She later immigrated to the United States in 1965, where she worked with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 1965 to 1967. A contributor of articles to professional journals, Dr. Valentekovich has had many notable achievements, including the improvement of RIA for thyroid tests at Curtis Nuclear Co. and development of the first prostate cancer PAP test at Beckman Instruments.
Dr. Valentekovich is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Association for Clinical Chemistry. She is proudest of the formation of a new company, Innotron-Diagnostic Co. Married to her husband Duro A. Valentekovich since 1962, she is the proud mother of two successful sons and grandmother of six grandchildren. In Dr. Valentekovich's avocations, she enjoys such diversions as classical music, traveling, and swimming.
