A renowned audition, vocal and dialect coach, composer and sound designer with more than 40 years of experience, Ms. Kaye's contributions have been influential throughout New York City, working on-and-off Broadway as well as in regional theater, film, television, dance, radio, commercials and cabaret. Throughout her career, she has coached hundreds of performers privately in audition preparation, text, music, dialects and accents. Likewise, Ms. Kaye has taught students to understand and confidently present themselves in auditions, rehearsals and performances.
As a music and sound designer, composer and arranger, Ms. Kaye has been affiliated with the New York Public Theater, the Acting Company and the New York Shakespeare Festival, among other organizations. She was notably one of the first two women to work in sound design as well as one of the earliest sound designers for theater. Additionally, Ms. Kaye has provided her expertise as a dialect coach in New York and as a coach for Westport Playhouse on numerous occasions.
A guest artist and speaker at many universities, Ms. Kaye has also conducted audition master classes throughout New York. As a writer, she co-authored the very successful book "Sound and Music for the Theatre: The Art and Technique of Design" in 1992 with James LeBrecht through Focal Press. Known as 'the bible' for sound designers, this publication, now in its fourth edition, is widely used by universities and theater professionals.
Based out of Manhattan, Ms. Kaye also works with students via Skype. She has been blessed to enjoy a very busy, yet rewarding career, without ever having to advertise her services, as she has instead relied completely on word-of-mouth and referrals. Volunteering her free time to her community, Ms. Kaye flourished several years as a coordinator for the Adopt-a-Scientist Project through the New York Academy of Sciences.
Ms. Kaye initially received a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of South Florida in 1973. She subsequently completed postgraduate coursework at Louisiana State University between 1974 and 1976. A former member of several industry-related organizations, she was affiliated with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Actors' Equity Association. Ms. Kaye was also a member of the artistic advisory board of the New Haven Artists' Theater in Connecticut and the TADA! Youth Theater in New York City.
Notably, Ms. Kaye was presented with 2020 United States Institute for Theatre Technology Distinguished Achievement Award in Sound. Previously, she was nominated for the AUDELCO Award in Sound Design. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Kaye has been selected for inclusion in the second and third editions of Who's Who in Entertainment.
