Dr. Zopf is renowned as a retired sociologist and educator with more than 35 years of specialty in demography. Prior to embarking upon his professional path, he earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Connecticut in 1953. He continued his academic efforts at the University of Florida, obtaining a Master of Science in 1955. Subsequently, Dr. Zopf graduated from the University of Florida with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1966.
In 1959, Dr. Zopf began his career as an assistant professor of sociology at Guilford College. He later found success at the aforementioned college as an associate professor from 1966 to 1970 and a professor from 1970 to 1972, at which point he was designated as the Dana professor of sociology. In 1993, he was presented with a professor emeritus designation, which holds to this day. Likewise, Dr. Zopf excelled as the chief college marshal at Guilford College from 1997 to 2005.
A frequent contributor to professional journals, Dr. Zopf is the author of several works of demography, including "Population: An Introduction to Social Demography" in 1984, "American Women in Poverty" in 1989 and "Mortality Patterns and Trends in the United States" in 1992. He has further served as a consultant to the United States Department of Agriculture and Oxford University Press. Moreover, Dr. Zopf is a member of the American Sociological Association, the Population Reference Bureau, and the Rural Sociological Society.
In light of the many highlights of his career, Dr. Zopf prides himself on the relationships he has built and maintained with his students throughout the years. He has also accepted grants from the Kenan Foundation and Guilford College. Furthermore, Dr. Zopf was recognized with a Teaching Excellence Award from Guilford College in 1978.
