The first member of her family to attend college, her parents advised her to become an English teacher, but she developed a passion for the law at an early age. She pursued an education at Old Dominion University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English. She was later offered a partial scholarship to continue her education at Nova University, from which she graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1981. Admitted to practice law by the Florida Bar in 1982, Ms. Lerman subsequently obtained a Master of Business Administration by Regis University in 1998.
Ms. Lerman has extensive experience as in-house General Counsel and as a business operations executive for several successful companies. In 2011, Ms. Lerman returned to private practice in the South Florida area. She has also been active as an instructor of business law at the University of Miami and a member of the adjunct faculty at the Nova University Law Center in Fort Lauderdale. Ms. Lerman has notably represented cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Ms. Lerman is motivated by a desire to help others, and enjoys serving as a mentor to new lawyers and new business owners. She is the recipient of numerous awards for outstanding and meritorious service from the Florida Bar, Broward County Bar Association, and the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers. Since returning to private practice, Ms. Lerman has devoted substantial time to helping the victims of financial fraud, particularly the elderly, investigating and working with law enforcement on public corruption matters and serving as an advocate for rare disease patients across the country.
