Mr. Staglin is renowned as a computer services executive, venture capitalist, and philanthropist with more than 45 years of success in his field. Growing up in California during the Cold War, he became interested in science and technology at an early age. Subsequently, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, with honors, at the University of California Los Angeles in 1966. Mr. Staglin later earned a Master of Business Administration at Stanford University in 1968.
From 1968 to 1971, Mr. Staglin served his country to the rank of Lieutenant as a member of the United States Navy. He began his career as an associate for the Carr Management Company in New York City, from 1971 to 1975. From 1975 to 1976, he worked as the Vice President of Crocker National Bank of San Francisco. Mr. Staglin further advanced his career with Itel Corporation as the Director of Finance from 1976 to 1977 and the President of the Insurance Services Division from 1977 to 1979.
Mr. Staglin was active with the Automotive Services Group of Automatic Data Processing in San Ramon, CA, in 1978, ascending from the General Manager to the Corporate Vice President by 199I. He found success with the Safelite Glass Corporation in Columbus, OH, holding the posts of the Chief Executive Officer from 199l to 1997 and the Chairman from 1991 to 2000. He joined the Board of Directors of First Data Corporation (FDC) in 1992 and subsequently served as the President and the Chief Executive Officer of eOne Global LLC, a subsidiary of FDC from 2000 to 2005. Mr. Staglin has excelled as a senior advisor at FTV Capital since 2005.
In 1995, he and his family founded One Mind, a 501.c.3 nonprofit dedicated to accelerating brain health science and impacting society by reducing stigma and discrimination. As a result of the success of One Mind, Mr. Staglin has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from HSS/SAMSHA in 2016, the Gordon and Llura Gund Leadership Award from Research America in 2018, and the Yale University Mental Health Research Advocacy Award in 2019. Since founding, One Mind has raised over $450 million in pursuit of its vision of "healthy brains for all."
To further pursuits in global brain health, Mr. Staglin co-founded the Healthy Brains Financing Initiative with the intent of raising $10 Billion in social impact financing arrangements to reduce the $3 Trillion annual burden of brain disease. In 2019 he was named a Steward of the Future of Health and Healthcare Forum of the World Economic Forum.
Mr. Staglin has participated on the board of directors of numerous charitable organizations and arts institutions, including the Peralta Hospital Cancer Institute, the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia & Depression, and the Berkeley Repertory Theater. He served as the Co-Chairman of the UCLA Centennial Campaign (2013-2019) successfully raising $5.4 Billion, more than any public university in history. In 2018, he and his wife, Shari, were named UCLA Alumnus of the Year, selected from more than 500,000 living alumni. As further recognition of his accomplishments in 2018, he received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
He and his family are proud to be the owner of Staglin Family Vineyard since 1985, a 70 acre Napa Valley estate producing award-winning wines farmed organically. Notably, Staglin Family Vineyard has generated more than one billion dollars of charitable funding since 1985 through donations of their wines and causes they have Chaired.
