Rev. Dr. Herron K. Gaston serves as the associate director of admissions and recruitment as well as the dean's designee for the title VI program at the Yale Divinity School of Yale University.

Currently serving as the associate director of admissions and recruitment as well as the dean's designee for the title VI program at the Yale Divinity School of Yale University since 2015, Dr. Gaston is an ordained clergy by the National Baptist Convention, USA Inc. and the Restoration Church of Orlando, Florida. Dr. Gaston is also a provisional elder in the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, having pastored Summerfield United Methodist Church for the past five years. Supported by a 17-year career in ministry, public service and civic engagement, he is also a distinguished member of his community, and was named to the Connecticut General Assembly's 100 Men of Color. Notably, Dr. Gaston also has received proclamations from the City of New Haven, the City of Bridgeport, the Town of Stratford, US Congress, and the State of Connecticut for exemplary leadership in public service.
Attending Florida A&M University, Dr. Gaston received both a Bachelor of Arts in political science and prelaw, and a Master of Arts in Social Sciences in political science and public administration. Likewise, he holds a Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology from Yale University and a Doctor of Ministry from Andover Newton Seminary at Yale University. Further, Dr. Gaston is currently a second-year law student at Quinnipiac University School of Law. Additionally, Dr. Gaston has gained valuable expertise abroad during his studies in France, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Saint Lucia and Puerto Rico, broadening his horizons on religious and professional levels.
In addition to his current role at Yale University, Dr. Gaston has served as a senior pastor, the chief administrative officer and a co-director for the Connecticut District on Resources to the NYAC/ADA. Further, he has worked as a title IX hearing officer at the New York Annual Conference of Associated Colleges and Universities since 2015. Dr. Gaston is also the assistant chief administrative officer for the City of Bridgeport, an administrative arm of the mayor's office, where he oversees the day-to-day operations of Connecticut's largest city. Since 2013, Dr. Gaston has also been a senior educational criminical justice consultant and a diversity, equity and inclusion officer of human resources management for the Gaston Justice Coalition, LLC.
Before affiliating in his various community-driven roles, Dr. Gaston commenced his career in 2005 in Tallahassee, Florida as an associate director of diversity, health and wellness at Project C.U.S.H. From 2007 to 2009 he continued his career as a senior assistant lobbyist and adviser to the president of the Affirmative Action Committee for the Public Affairs Consultants, Inc., Dr. Gaston also served in the Executive Office of the Governor as a Legislative Analyst, and later a legislative assistant for the Florida Department of Corrections; and between 2008 and 2010, he found success as a senior administrative assistant of admissions at Florida A&M University. For one year, he excelled as the senior director of community equity and deputy chief of staff and human resources management on behalf of Health Promotion Programs Initiatives, Inc. In 2012, Dr. Gaston commenced his service at Yale University as an admissions assistant of the Divinity School until 2015, and was additionally a teaching assistant at Gateway Community College in New Haven from 2014 to 2016.
Dr. Gaston is a member of the Golden Key International Honors Society, the National Scholars Honors Society, and the honorable societies of Phi Alpha Delta, Phi Sigma Theta, Omicron Delta Kappa and Alpha Kappa Mu. Dr. Gaston is a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. At the Quinnipiac University School of Law, he serves as the president of the Christian Legal Society and the vice president of the Catholic Society. What's more, Dr. Gaston is the public service and civic engagement chairperson of the Black Law Student Association. In the City of Bridgeport, Dr. Gaston is the former president and chairman of the Civil Service Commission, having been the youngest person to serve on the commission in the City's history.
The author of "Call to Action: Practically Reversing the Trends of Mass Incarceration," published in 2019, Dr. Gaston has likewise presented on a number of topics at the Yale University Black Solidarity Conference of 2015. He has demonstrated his considerable knowledge at an activism workshop with organizers from the Millions March in NYC and Columbia University, and delivered presentations such as "Social Justice: Breaking It Down," "Social Justice: Columbia Prison Divest" and "Panel: Law Perspective on Criminal Justice." Additionally, Dr. Gaston is the author of "From Jail to Yale" and "Practically Reversing the Trends of Mass incarceration."
Dr. Gaston attributes his success to those that helped him commence his career in service. Dr. Gaston extends a special thanks to his parents, Dr. Martin Luther King III, Dr. Cornel West, Pastor Donnie McClurkin, Congressman John Lewis, Congresswoman Fredricka Wilson, Dr. Chanta Haywood, Dr. Gregory Harris, Mr. Jack and Keyna Cory, and many others who have inspired his personal and professional journey. Without them there would have never been the first step to his rewarding profession, and he stresses that no one can achieve success without some form of assistance. Having always felt an impassioned call to contribute to the betterment of his community, he presently feels compelled to connect people to resources in order to help break generational cycles of poverty. He aims to be a champion in helping his neighbors fight such institutionalized norms as those that have oppressed the impoverished for centuries, and wishes to be a voice in the courtroom in order to address, in particular, the systematic issue of mass incarceration. In five years' time, Dr. Gaston sees himself running for public office, as it is the highest level of service that a person can accept.
